Job Description

About Amino

Amino is a global technology company with nearly 30 years of experience in video and media technology. We develop innovative solutions that enable businesses to deliver, manage and distribute video and digital content across a wide range of connected devices.

Our technology is used by customers and partners around the world, and we are continuing to evolve our products as the worlds of video, digital signage and connected experiences come together. We combine deep technical expertise with a focus on developing practical, reliable solutions that solve real-world customer needs.

About Elumyn

Elumyn is Amino’s cloud-based digital signage orchestration platform for creating, managing and displaying content across connected devices. It combines a Python API, PostgreSQL database, React application, real-time device communication and AWS-hosted infrastructure.

As a Software Engineering Intern, you will join the engineering team to help develop, test and maintain the Elumyn platform. You will gain practical, hands-on experience across backend, frontend, database and cloud technologies, working alongside experienced engineers on well-defined features, improvements and fixes within an established codebase.

This role would suit someone currently studying towards a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline. You do not need to be an expert in all of the technologies below. We are looking for solid programming foundations, particularly in Python, together with curiosity, a willingness to learn and an interest in developing your software engineering skills in a commercial environment.

You should be organised and proactive, able to make progress on clearly defined tasks between check-ins, communicate clearly and raise questions or blockers early. You will be supported by the wider engineering team as you build your knowledge and take on increasing ownership during the internship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write and maintain Python backend code for FastAPI endpoints, business logic, integrations and supporting utilities.
  • Learn an existing codebase, investigate behaviour and make small, safe changes that meet functional and quality requirements.
  • Contribute to React/JavaScript frontend development and maintenance of the platform’s management application.
  • Work with PostgreSQL and SQL, including schema changes and database migrations.
  • Write and run automated tests across backend, frontend and browser-based UI workflows where appropriate.
  • Use debugging tools, logs, API documentation and local development environments to investigate and resolve issues.
  • Use Git effectively, create clear commits, participate in code reviews and respond constructively to feedback.
  • Work with Docker-based local services and gain exposure to deployment across multiple environments and AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, S3, CloudFront and RDS.
  • Work within our Agile development process, communicating progress clearly and raising questions or blockers promptly.

What we are looking for:

  • Working knowledge of Python, including readable functions, data structures, error handling and modular code.
  • Understanding of core software development principles, including object-oriented programming, HTTP APIs, version control and debugging.
  • Familiarity with SQL and relational databases through university work, personal projects or equivalent experience.
  • Basic Git experience, including commits, branches and pull requests.
  • Ability to read unfamiliar code, investigate problems systematically and communicate findings clearly.
  • Understanding of testing fundamentals and a willingness to write tests alongside application code.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with an organised and proactive approach to work.
  • Care and attention to quality, security and the impact of changes on users.

Useful Experience or Willingness to Learn:

Experience in all of the following is not expected. During the internship, you may have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of:

  • FastAPI, Pydantic, asynchronous Python or REST API development.
  • React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS or modern frontend tooling such as Vite.
  • PostgreSQL, database design and migrations.
  • Docker and local development environments.
  • pytest, Playwright, ESLint or other automated testing and code-quality tools.
  • Authentication and authorisation concepts such as JWTs, role-based access control and OAuth/Cognito-style identity services.
  • AWS, serverless applications or infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
  • MQTT, WebSockets or other real-time messaging technologies.Learn an existing codebase, investigate behaviour and make small, safe changes that meet functional and quality requirements.
  • Contribute to React/JavaScript frontend development and maintenance of the platform’s management application.

Desirable:

  • Experience completing a software project through university, placement work, an open-source contribution or a personal project.
  • Familiarity with Agile ways of working.
  • An interest in cloud platforms, connected devices, media technology or digital signage.
  • Evidence of curiosity and self-directed learning, such as technical projects, GitHub contributions or relevant coursework.

The successful candidate will be supported by experienced colleagues to build their knowledge and practical experience across the Elumyn platform. As their skills and confidence develop, they will have the opportunity to take greater ownership of clearly scoped work and see their contributions used within a commercial software product.
