Summary:

This person oversees all aspects of the Democratic Party’s voter protection program, including direct voter assistance, local advocacy, vote-by-mail support, the poll watching program, and post-election planning. They will also serve as the Primary Administrator, leading the State Party’s election administration responsibilities for the Democratic Primary, including managing the candidate filing process, liaising with state and local election officials, and training and supporting County Chairs in executing their primary administration responsibilities.

The position is responsible for creating a comprehensive educational and action plan to expand opportunities for Texans to be registered to vote, educated on all aspects of voting, and be protected from any form of intimidation or voter suppression that interferes with casting a ballot or full participation in all aspects of Texas government.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Voter Protection Team’s programmatic efforts, planning, and overseeing the team’s work for the 2026 election cycle and managing the staff member(s). 
  • Coordinate with other departments to facilitate the Voter Protection Team’s work and support the work of other departments.
  • Build a statewide voter protection and regional level voter protection program that covers Early Voting, vote-by-mail and Election Day. 
  • Identify regions, counties and voting methods that will require additional voter protection resources. 
  • Build proactive contingency plans for potential voting disruptions, legal challenges, or election emergencies.
  • Manage the Voter Protection team, supporting individual staff members in their day-to-day work and their professional development, guiding and connecting the team’s various work streams, and providing constructive feedback on plans and work product.
  • Track legislative and litigation developments related to voting and election law and collaborate with the Party’s legal counsel on how to address those developments.
  • Identify election administration and voting problems through collaboration with County Chairs, external stakeholders, hotline reports, news reports, and other sources to develop a coordinated response within the Party. 
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteer poll monitors, voter assistance volunteers, hotline staff, and poll observers.
  • Build training materials, scripts, and reporting protocols.
  • Coordinate volunteer scheduling for early voting and Election Day coverage.
  • Ensure volunteers understand election laws, de-escalation practices, and reporting procedures.
  • Monitor polling place operations and voting trends throughout the voting period.
  • Coordinate rapid response to reports of voter intimidation, polling place issues, equipment failures, long lines, accessibility concerns, and other voting barriers.
  • Maintain communication with field organizers and regional leadership.
  • Track and resolve Election Day incidents in real time.
  • Administer the Democratic Primary election throughout the state, managing the candidate filing process for TDP, tracking primary finances, and training & supporting County Chairs in administering county primary elections.
  • Coordinate with state and select county-level officials to advance proactive improvements to voting, respond to problems, and resolve issues for individual voters, with a particular focus on issues impacting people of color and voters with disabilities. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for, and collaborate with, national partners on voter protection, including the DNC, DSCC, and DCCC.
  • Act as a spokesperson for TDP on voting rights issues, including speaking at public events, going on-the-record with reporters, and leading public trainings & events (virtually and in person). 
  • Maintain a strong knowledge base of voting laws, policies, and practices within Texas and national trends/best practices.

Requirements

  • Minimum of six years of professional experience in campaigns and/or policy & advocacy.
  • Minimum of one cycle of voter protection experience on staff with a state party, coordinated campaign, or a non-profit organization.
  • Minimum of three years of people management experience.  
  • Minimum of two years of project management experience that included multiple team members, from an idea through execution. 
  • Demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills and pragmatic approach. 
  • Strong knowledge of the Election Code or policy guidance. 
  • Demonstrated strong presentation and training skills. 

Preferred 

  • Organizing experience – The candidate has a track record of success in recruiting, training and managing volunteers, and escalating volunteers into leadership roles.
  • Experience using VAN. 

Compensation:

$7,500 Per month (salaried position)
