About us
Hello, we’re Reach. Every day, our trusted news, stories and content connect with millions of people where they live - whether that’s on their social feed or at their neighbourhood newsstand; through their local community or their take on the hot topic of the day.
We're home to more than 120 brands - from household names like the Mirror, Express, Daily Star and Daily Record, to local titles like MyLondon, BelfastLive, and the Manchester Evening News, and brands making a splash in the US like the Irish Star.
It's our ability to understand people and the things that matter to them that makes us Britain and Ireland's largest commercial news publisher. We reach around 70% of the UK's online population, 10% of the US online population, and over 100 million social followers around the world, connecting with them on who they are, where they live and what they love.

The Role - Rota: 4-on, 4-off (2 Days, 2 Nights)
With some of our long-standing team members heading into a well-deserved retirement this summer. We are hiring Mechanical and Electrical Engineers for our Print Site in Oldham.
Maintain and optimise high-speed print production at Reach PLC. This is a hands-on Mechanical or Electrical role focused on equipment reliability and operational uptime.
Core Responsibilities
Reactive & Breakdown Maintenance: Rapid response to mechanical failures to minimise downtime.
Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM): Execute structured maintenance schedules to ensure long-term machine health.
Continuous Improvement: Identify technical bottlenecks and develop SOPs to enhance equipment performance.
Operational Support: Partner with production operators on low-level engineering tasks and safety compliance.
Documentation: Track all tasks and asset history via our CMMS system.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
We know great engineering talent comes from many backgrounds. While our fast-paced environment involves printing national and local newspapers, we care more about your core engineering capabilities and your willingness to learn than your specific industry background.
If you have strong foundational skills and a growth mindset, we will provide the industry-specific training you need.
Technical Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications: A Level 3 (NVQ) in a Mechanical OR Electrical Engineering discipline, OR a completed time-served apprenticeship.
Experience: A proven background in a fast-paced environment—whether that’s FMCG, high-volume manufacturing, automotive, automation, or any sector with complex, high-speed machinery where uptime is critical.
Technical Skills: Strong fault-finding skills (mechanical or electrical), a proactive approach to preventative maintenance, and a structured method for solving complex technical problems.
IT Literacy: Comfortable using technology for reporting and task management, including familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and basic MS Office (Word/Excel).
Personal Attributes
Flexibility: Committed to a 2/2/4 shift pattern (Days and Nights).
Pressure Management: Ability to multitask and prioritise during critical breakdown periods.
Communication: Clear verbal and written skills for coordinating with contractors and management.
