Multi-Skilled Construction Laborer

Job Summary

QTC Inc. is seeking an experienced and versatile Multi-Skilled Construction Laborer to support a wide range of civil and general construction projects.

This is a hands-on field position for someone who is willing and able to perform physical construction work throughout the day. The position may include operating equipment when needed, but employees should not expect to remain in a machine for the entire shift.

The ideal candidate has experience in several areas of construction, including underground utilities, excavation, dirt work, grading, concrete, framing, site development, and equipment operation. We are looking for someone who is flexible, dependable, and willing to assist wherever the project requires.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on skilled and general construction labor.
• Assist with excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, compaction, and site preparation.
• Install underground conduit, utility lines, vaults, pull boxes, drainage, and related infrastructure.
• Perform concrete work, including forming, pouring, finishing, demolition, and repair.
• Assist with framing, blocking, sheathing, carpentry, and structural repairs.
• Operate skid steers, mini excavators, backhoes, loaders, compactors, forklifts, and similar equipment when assigned.
• Enter and exit equipment throughout the workday to assist with labor, setup, cleanup, spotting, grading, measurements, and material handling.
• Use hand tools, power tools, saws, compactors, lasers, pumps, and other construction equipment.
• Load, unload, stage, move, and organize construction materials.
• Assist with demolition, restoration, cleanup, and general jobsite activities.
• Read tape measures, construction plans, grade information, and basic site drawings.
• Work alongside foremen, operators, laborers, subcontractors, and project management.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and report damage or maintenance concerns.
• Follow company safety policies, job hazard analyses, and OSHA and Cal/OSHA requirements.
• Perform additional duties based on project and crew needs.

Position Expectations

This position requires employees to be active and productive both inside and outside of construction equipment.

Applicants should understand that equipment operation is only one part of the job. Team members are expected to assist with physical labor, material handling, setup, cleanup, concrete work, underground work, and other construction activities as needed.

This is not an equipment-only operator position.

Required Qualifications

• At least three years of experience in civil construction, underground utilities, earthwork, concrete, framing, equipment operation, or related construction work.
• Experience in multiple areas of construction.
• Willingness to perform physical labor throughout the workday.
• Ability to safely operate construction equipment when assigned.
• Knowledge of excavation, trenching, grading, compaction, concrete, and general construction practices.
• Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic construction calculations.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Reliable attendance and transportation.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions.
• Ability to travel and work overtime when required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Underground electrical or telecommunications construction experience.
• Experience installing conduit, vaults, pull boxes, or utility infrastructure.
• Experience operating skid steers, excavators, backhoes, loaders, and compactors.
• Concrete forming and finishing experience.
• Framing or carpentry experience.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
• Experience reading civil plans, elevations, grades, and utility drawings.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, reach, and work on uneven ground.
• Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Enter and exit construction equipment repeatedly throughout the workday.
• Work around trenches, excavations, traffic, noise, dust, vibration, and heavy equipment.
• Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions.
• Wear all required personal protective equipment.
