Full job description

Field Service Engineer (FSE) – Counter-small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-sUAS)

Company Overview:

OWT Global is a Tampa based company that provides reliable expertise and operational support to the U.S. Government and commercial industry. Founded in 2010, we are a SBA Small Business specializing in deployed Field Services, Engineering Support, RDT&E, Technical Program and Project Management, logistics, maintenance, and training of advanced technologies, including Unmanned Systems (UxS), Command and Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C5ISR), and Air Domain Awareness and Defense (ADAD).

Our unique services-first and vendor-agnostic approach provides our customers with dedication, quality, and reliability from a partner that prioritizes their mission above all else. Headquartered in Tampa, FL, and recognized as one of the Top Workplaces by Tampa Bay Times from 2022 to 2025, OWT Global is proud to have a workforce comprised of 96% of veterans, each hand-picked to support the development and application of the latest solutions to enhance our client’s operations and improve mission outcomes.

Position Overview:

The Field Service Engineer (FSE) will join OWT Global’s FIST Team (Fielding, Integration, Service, and Training) and provide technical expertise focused on IT heavy systems support, network infrastructure, server management, and rapid field integration for advanced mission systems at both Continental United States (CONUS) and Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS) locations.

This role emphasizes practical, hands on IT and networking skills in smaller, dynamic environments where the FSE must execute tasks efficiently and transition quickly to follow on requirements. The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert for the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and sustainment of networked systems, servers, Cisco based infrastructure, fiber optics, power distribution, and related hardware/software supporting fielded capabilities.

The FSE is not an operator role. Instead, the focus is on ensuring reliable power, networking, and IT infrastructure so that systems remain mission ready. The position involves 25–75% travel (with a goal of less than 50%), including potential tower work and generalist tasks as needed. The successful candidate will work closely with government stakeholders, military end users, and industry partners to ensure mission readiness and system performance in dynamic operational environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive site surveys focused on network infrastructure, power availability, fiber optic pathways, line of sight assessments for wireless links, and evaluation of existing IT and structural infrastructure to ensure optimal system placement and performance.
  • Install, configure, and maintain networking hardware, servers, Cisco switches/routers, fiber optic systems, and associated power distribution equipment at CONUS and OCONUS sites.
  • Execute rapid IT tasks including server builds, network configuration, cable plant installation/termination, and system integration, then efficiently transition to subsequent field requirements.
  • Perform system diagnostics, fault isolation, and corrective actions on network, server, and power-related issues to sustain operational readiness.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with technical manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and manufacturer specifications.
  • Support field testing, data collection, and system evaluations for performance verification, acceptance testing, and integration with broader mission networks.
  • Train military and civilian personnel on network setup, basic troubleshooting, and sustainment of IT infrastructure (when required).
  • Provide detailed technical reports, maintenance logs, and after action summaries to government leads and program management.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to implement software/firmware updates, configuration changes, and hardware upgrades.
  • Support system integration with base defense networks, tactical sensor networks, and enterprise IT environments.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, security, cybersecurity, and operational standards.
  • Perform generalist tasks as needed, including tower climbing, antenna/cable work, and support for related field infrastructure.

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience working in or around a military environment.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent military training/experience).
  • Minimum 3 years of hands on experience with networking, server management, Cisco equipment, and/or fiber optic systems in field or deployed environments.
  • Proven ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot complex network and server systems quickly in austere or small-scale environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of power systems, networking fundamentals (LAN/WAN), fiber optics, and Linux/Windows server environments.
  • Familiarity with Cisco networking equipment (switches, routers, firewalls) and related configuration/management tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, executing IT tasks efficiently and moving on to subsequent priorities.
  • Willingness to travel 25–75% (goal of less than 50%), including to remote or OCONUS sites as mission requires.
  • Current passport or the ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to meet European Contractor Online Processing System (ECOPS) requirements (as applicable).
  • Active DoD security clearance at the Secret or higher level.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and comfort working at heights / climbing towers or elevated structures.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching or presenting highly technical concepts to military personnel, including high-ranking officials (Colonels and above) and government stakeholders.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Prior military experience (preferred MOS/AFSC in communications, networking, IT, electronics, or related fields).
  • CompTIA or equivalent technical certifications (Network+, Security+, A+, CCNA, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience with fiber optic installation, termination, testing (OTDR, power meters), and cable plant management.
  • Experience supporting smaller, non enterprise environments where rapid task execution and multi role support are required.
  • Familiarity with data collection for Government Acceptance Test Plans (GATP) or operational assessments.
  • Willingness to accept short duration operational deployments to various OCONUS locations in support of mission objectives.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
  • May be required to operate vehicles, climb towers, work at heights, and perform tasks in elevated positions.
  • Must adhere to all site safety and security protocols.
  • Comfort working in austere or dynamic field environments with limited infrastructure support.

Benefits:

  • Comprehensive Health, Dental, and Vision insurance coverage.
  • Short-Term and Long-Term Disability, Life Insurance, and Workers’ Compensation protection.
  • Traditional and Roth 401(k) retirement plan options with company matching.
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) and Holiday Pay.

Core Responsibilities:

System Installation and Configuration

  • Install, configure, and integrate networking hardware, servers, Cisco infrastructure, fiber optic systems, and power distribution equipment at CONUS or OCONUS sites.
  • Conduct site surveys focused on power, network pathways, fiber routes, structural readiness, and IT infrastructure preparation for system emplacement.
  • Validate system functionality through initial operational testing, network connectivity verification, and calibration.
  • Perform rapid IT builds and configurations in support of fielding timelines, then transition efficiently to follow on tasks.

Operations and Maintenance

  • Support networked systems during field missions, tests, and operational deployments with a focus on infrastructure reliability (not system operation).
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on servers, network gear, fiber plants, and power systems to sustain full readiness.
  • Conduct system diagnostics and fault isolation for hardware, software, network, and power related issues.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and operational logs in accordance with established technical orders and procedures.

Technical Support and Troubleshooting

  • Provide on site and remote troubleshooting support for network, server, fiber, and power issues to end users and technical teams.
  • Execute firmware and software updates, configuration changes, and component replacements on IT and networking equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to report system performance issues, collect logs, and validate corrective actions.
  • Rapidly resolve IT tasks in smaller environments and move on to subsequent priorities with minimal downtime.

Testing and Evaluation

  • Support government and contractor testing, including Government Acceptance Test Plans (GATP), with emphasis on network and infrastructure performance.
  • Conduct data collection and analysis related to network connectivity, latency, throughput, power stability, and system integration.
  • Provide detailed technical reports summarizing test results, anomalies, and corrective actions.

Training and User Support

  • Train military operators, site personnel, and maintenance staff on network setup, basic IT troubleshooting, and sustainment procedures when required.
  • Develop or contribute to training materials, quick reference guides, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) focused on infrastructure and networking.
  • Serve as the on site technical liaison between the company and the customer, including briefings to senior military and government stakeholders when needed.
  • Demonstrate strong presentation and public speaking skills when interacting with Colonels and other high ranking officials.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare daily/weekly/monthly activity reports, maintenance logs, and system performance summaries focused on IT and network infrastructure.
  • Document equipment status, part usage, cable plant records, and repair actions in the maintenance tracking reports.
  • Provide technical input for system upgrades, configuration control, and lessons learned documentation.

Safety, Compliance, and Mission Readiness

  • Ensure compliance with safety, cybersecurity, and operational security (OPSEC) policies.
  • Maintain accountability for tools, test equipment, network gear, fiber optic supplies, and spare parts inventory.
  • Support rapid deployment, field testing, and mission critical operations under limited supervision.
  • Adhere to all tower climbing, height, and power safety protocols.
