The intern provides technical support for transportation planning and engineering projects, focusing on GIS database maintenance and geospatial mapping. They are also responsible for quantitative data analysis, field work, and supporting public engagement activities.
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related field. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required, and familiarity with ArcGIS software is preferred.

The Transportation Planning Intern provides professional and technical support to the Transportation Planning & Engineering Division. This position offers students practical experience in metropolitan transportation planning, geographic information systems (GIS), data collection and analysis, multimodal transportation planning, engineering support, and public engagement activities. Under the guidance of professional planning staff, the intern assists with transportation planning projects that advance NOACA’s mission and regional planning initiatives while gaining valuable experience in public sector planning.
Support multimodal planning, modeling, engineering, and project development by:
o Urban or Regional Planning
o Civil Engineering
o Transportation Planning
o Geography
o Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
o Public Administration
o Environmental Studies
o Or a closely related field.

The physical requirements of this position are related to a standard office environment with periodic field work. Employees must be able to operate a computer, telephone, and other standard office equipment. The position requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and occasional lifting of materials weighing up to 35 pounds. Field assignments may require walking on uneven terrain and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
