POSITION SUMMARY
Are you a skilled mechanic with experience in both traditional and cutting-edge technologies, or an aspiring apprentice eager to grow? Join New Flyer as a Field Service Technician, where you’ll play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing our diverse fleet. You will ensure that our buses, from diesel engines to electric drivetrains, operate at their peak performance.
In addition to your mechanical expertise, you'll take on the role of Field Service Technician, providing essential on-site support across various locations in Canada and the US. This dynamic, customer-facing position involves troubleshooting, repairing equipment, completing retrofits, and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction through professional service. You will work closely with teams from both MCI and New Flyer, enhancing operational efficiency and fostering strong customer relations.

Advanced HVAC System Maintenance: Take the lead in servicing and repairing complex HVAC systems, ensuring optimal passenger comfort and system efficiency.
Electrical and High-Voltage Systems: Conduct in-depth troubleshooting and repairs of high-voltage electrical systems and drivetrains for electric buses. Employ advanced diagnostic tools to resolve complex issues.
Fleet Vehicle Inspection and Certification: Oversee the final inspection process for fleet vehicles, ensuring all repairs and maintenance meet rigorous safety and performance standards before vehicles are certified for service.
Mentorship and Team Leadership: Provide guidance and support to junior mechanics, including Mechanic III and Mechanic II team members. Mentor and help develop their skills to uphold high standards of workmanship.
Innovate and Adapt: Stay updated with industry advancements and integrate new technologies into your work. Contribute to setting the standard for maintenance practices, including those related to electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESFUL
A minimum of five (5) years' work experience working in a similar position preferably with heavy duty transit buses or heavy-duty trucks.
Technical Expertise: Experience with diesel engines, driveline components, electrical systems, and electric vehicle maintenance. Familiarity with diagnostic devices such as DDEC, ATEC readers, and equipment diagnostics (e.g., Cummins Insite, DDDL, Allison DOC, Wabco Toolbox, Bendix ACOM).
Tool Proficiency: Proficiency with shop tools, diagnostic devices, and equipment for assembly and repairs.
Certification: Certified Truck & Coach Technician (310T), or currently pursuing certification, Red Seal Preferred. Additional certifications related to electric vehicles or advanced diagnostics are beneficial.
Customer Service Skills: High level of professionalism with strong customer service skills, capable of interacting positively with clients.
Problem-Solving Skills: High problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Organizational Skills: High organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed reports and logs.
Travel Requirement: Willingness to travel 50% of the time, with a valid passport required.
