Full job description
Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is searching for a Cybersecurity Systems Analyst - Senior in support of United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) and Combat Forces Command (CFC) Defensive Cyber Operations.
A Cybersecurity Systems Analyst in this context is responsible for continuously assessing, monitoring, and reporting on the operational health, readiness, and effectiveness of Defensive Cyber Operations for Space (DCO-S) capabilities. This includes both internal (enterprise/home-station) systems and external (field/operational site) deployments.
The Cybersecurity Systems Analyst focuses on analyzing, assessing, and strengthening the security posture of information systems through continuous evaluation of cybersecurity controls, vulnerabilities, and risks. The Cybersecurity Systems Analyst supports the full system lifecycle by performing security assessments, implementing and validating technical controls, and ensuring compliance with federal cybersecurity standards (including NIST SP 800-53 and the Risk Management Framework). Has an in-depth understanding of cybersecurity policies, procedures, and technical architectures for government-sector information systems, with sufficient hands-on knowledge to implement and sustain them. Provides technical security guidance and analysis in collaboration with system owners, ISSOs, engineers, and stakeholders, while supporting secure system development, cloud environments, and operational needs. This position may require privileged access and DoD 8570/8140 restrictions will apply.
Role and Responsibilities:
1. Internal DCO-S Capability Health Assessment
Continuously monitor the operational status, performance, and availability of enterprise DCO-S tools, sensors, platforms, and infrastructure.
Conduct regular health checks, configuration audits, and performance analysis on DCO-S systems to identify degradation, misconfigurations, or emerging issues.
Analyze system logs, metrics, and alerts to evaluate the overall cybersecurity posture and effectiveness of internal DCO-S capabilities.
Track and report on key health indicators (availability, latency, detection coverage, false-positive rates, patch compliance, etc.).
Support vulnerability scanning, STIG compliance validation, and remediation tracking for DCO-S systems hosted in enterprise environments.
Maintain accurate documentation of system baselines, configurations, and health trends for internal DCO-S assets.
2. External / Field / Operational Site DCO-S Health Assessment
Assess the operational health and readiness of DCO-S capabilities deployed at remote or operational sites (including deployable kits, forward-based systems, and site-specific installations).
Coordinate with field operators and site personnel to collect health status data, performance metrics, and issue reports from operational locations.
Perform or support remote and on-site evaluations of deployed DCO-S tools to verify functionality, connectivity, sensor coverage, and alignment with mission requirements.
Identify capability gaps, degraded performance, or sustainment issues affecting DCO-S systems in the field.
Support troubleshooting, configuration validation, and restoration of DCO-S capabilities at operational sites when issues are detected.
Track the status of deployable DCO-S systems (e.g., readiness of kits, software versions, hardware health) across multiple locations.
3. Analysis, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Develop and maintain dashboards, status reports, and briefings on the overall health of DCO-S capabilities (internal + external).
Analyze trends and root causes of capability degradation; recommend corrective actions, process improvements, or technical mitigations.
Support risk assessments related to DCO-S system health that could impact mission readiness or defensive cyber operations.
Collaborate with system owners, ISSOs, engineers, and operational units to ensure DCO-S capabilities remain effective and mission-ready.
Assist in the validation of security controls and continuous monitoring activities specifically tied to DCO-S platforms.
Contribute to after-action reviews and lessons-learned processes following exercises, deployments, or real-world events involving DCO-S systems.
4. Coordination & Support
Serve as a technical point of contact for DCO-S health and readiness questions from leadership, operators, and supporting organizations.
Coordinate with external stakeholders (site teams, higher headquarters, vendors) to resolve health-related issues affecting operational DCO-S capabilities.
Support planning and execution of system upgrades, patches, and configuration changes while minimizing impact on operational availability.
Required:
At least 10+ years' related professional experience
Experience analyzing system architectures, identifying security gaps, and recommending technical mitigations.
Familiarity with SIEM tools, log analysis, and basic threat detection/response activities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation, risk reporting, and stakeholder interaction.
Experience deploying, managing, or troubleshooting Docker containers
Familiarity with automation and configuration-management tools such as Ansible
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and Bash
Ability to work independently on assigned systems while collaborating effectively in cross-functional teams.
Knowledge of Defense-in-Depth architectures, network security principles, operating system hardening, and cloud security concepts.
Prior experience supporting federal, DoD, or intelligence community systems.
Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and models, including MITRE ATT&CK and the Cyber Kill Chain
Desired:
Experience supporting DoD cloud environments at Secret, Top Secret, or SAP levels.
Experience integrating with enterprise DevSecOps platforms such as Platform One, Space CAMP, or other DoD enterprise PaaS environments.
Experience with GitLab, including source control and CI/CD workflows
Experience applying machine learning to cybersecurity or data-analysis use cases
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Assurance, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Clearance Requirements:
Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility required
Location/Travel Requirements:
Place of work is Colorado Springs; remote work opportunity is limited. You may be required to travel periodically, less than 10%.
The pay range for this position in Colorado is $160,000/year to $190,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract ranges, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors. MTSI also offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
