Full job description

The Production Planner is a new and critical capability within the Cambridge facility, responsible for translating the Master Production Schedule (MPS) into detailed, executable four-week rolling and daily production plans for the Production and Quality teams. This role ensures that work is sequenced correctly by operation, that cycle times defined in process sheets drive realistic scheduling, and that the right resources, materials, and capacity are aligned to meet customer commitments. The Production Planner is a key link between planning intent and shop floor execution within the Mirion Factory Development System (MFDS).

This position fills an existing vacancy.

Essential Duties
Master Schedule Translation & Daily Planning

•Receive and interpret the Master Production Schedule (MPS) by project/order, and translate it into four-week rolling schedule and daily work-to lists for Production and Quality teams.
•Sequence production orders based on correct operation sequence as defined in process sheets, ensuring upstream operations are complete before downstream work is released.
•Apply standard cycle times from process sheets to develop accurate capacity-loaded daily schedules that reflect realistic throughput.
•Maintain and publish the daily production schedule, communicating priorities and changes clearly to the Manufacturing Manager, production supervisors, and Quality.
•Participate in daily tiered management meetings to provide schedule status, flag risks, and support escalation decisions.
•Maintain a rolling four-week production schedule for all work-centers and machines, updated regularly to reflect current priorities and capacity.
•Re-sequence and move production work within the four-week planning window and between work-centers to maximize factory efficiency; this requires developing solid familiarity with the full product portfolio and manufacturing processes.
•Work with the Master Scheduler to ensure the Master Schedule (Microsoft Project) and the Production Schedule remain aligned; escalate conflicts as required.

Capacity & Constraint Management

•Monitor capacity utilization across work centers, identifying bottlenecks and imbalances that threaten schedule adherence.
•Provide the Manufacturing Manager with forward-looking capacity analyses to support resource decisions (overtime, cross-training deployment, outsourcing).
•Flag schedule risks proactively — including material shortages, quality holds, or engineering dependencies — and propose re-sequencing options.
•Maintain a live view of work-in-process (WIP) status to ensure visibility across the production floor.

Schedule Performance & Reporting

•Track on-time completion of daily and weekly production targets, reporting adherence metrics (Schedule Attainment) to the Manufacturing Manager.
•Analyze root causes of schedule misses and participate in countermeasure development using structured problem-solving tools (5-Why, A3).
•Maintain planning data integrity including process sheet cycle times, routing sequences, and standard lead times in the ERP/MRP system.
•Generate and distribute daily/weekly schedule reports to the production and management teams.

Cross-Functional Coordination

•Collaborate closely with Supply Chain/Purchasing to ensure material availability aligns with scheduled production start dates.
•Partner with Engineering to understand new product introduction (NPI) timelines, process sheet readiness, and cycle time data for new work orders.
•Coordinate with Quality to account for inspection hold points, test durations, and first-article activities in the production schedule.
•Support the Manufacturing Manager in communicating customer delivery status to the commercial team.
•Work with the Manufacturing Manager and Sales team to assess the production demands of proposed and new projects; provide forecast delivery dates and capacity requirement estimates to support commercial decision-making.

Continuous Improvement

•Identify opportunities to improve scheduling accuracy, lead time reduction, and schedule attainment through better use of planning tools and process data.
•Support kaizen activities related to production flow, WIP reduction, and lead time improvement.
•Contribute to the ongoing development of planning standards and processes as this role is established within the facility.

Education & Experience Requirements
EDUCATIONAL

•Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

EXPERIENCE

•3+ years of experience in a production planning, scheduling, or operations coordination role within a manufacturing environment.
•Demonstrated experience translating a Master Production Schedule into detailed work lists using process routings and cycle times.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project for data analysis and reporting

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

•Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, work center capacity, and process flow concepts.
•Ability to interpret process sheets, operation sequences, and cycle time data.
•Strong analytical and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain.

Additional Qualifications

•Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (nuclear, aerospace, medical devices, or similar) is a strong asset.
•Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and visual scheduling tools (e.g., production control boards, CONWIP, pull systems).
•Experience working within a Tiered Daily Management or similar structured production management system.
•APICS CPIM certification or equivalent supply chain/planning credential is an asset.
