Job DetailsLevel: ExperiencedJob Location: Bradley Symphony Center - Milwaukee, WI 53203Salary Range: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 SalaryJOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Human Resources Manager provides oversight, planning and management of the human resources (HR) function of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (MSO) while pursuing the organization’s values and strategic commitment to attract, retain, advance and support a diverse workforce that thrives in a respectful, inclusive and equitable workplace and culture.

The MSO’s workforce is a mix of union and non-union personnel. The non-union administrative staff includes approximately 50 employees. The MSO’s 70+ musicians work under a collective bargaining agreement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee, monitor and develop comprehensive HR strategies, policies and practices that support the organization’s goals and needs while creating a diverse, respectful, welcoming and inclusive work environment for all employees
Lead strategic thinking and planning related to organizational development and structure in partnership with senior management
Monitor organization's culture to ensure that it supports the MSO's values and goals.
Serve as a trusted advisor to managers and employees on legal rights, obligations, and HR best practices
Oversee and implement administrative staff recruiting and selection process. Design and implement strategies and protocols to build capacity for all departments to interview, hire and retain a diverse workforce.
Implement effective administrative staff orientation and on-boarding programs, in addition to coaching, training and professional development opportunities
Create strategies that encourage team building and increase communication across administrative departments and between administration and artistic areas
Develop and implement strategies for demonstrating employee value and appreciation
Lead organization’s compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements (EEO, ADA, FMLA, ERISA, OSHA, etc.). Keep job knowledge up to date by participating in industry-related organizations and conferences and maintaining and expanding professional networks.
Oversee administrative staff evaluation process. Provide guidance and training to supervisors to enhance effectiveness of the process.
Monitor compensation to ensure equitable treatment and industry alignment
Manage accurate processing and recording of MSO’s payroll
Recommend and obtain cost-effective employee benefits, monitor national benefits environment for options and cost savings. Oversee benefit orientations and training as needed.
Assist Director of Orchestra Personnel with HR strategies, policies and practices that support the organization’s union workforce. Provide support during negotiations of the collective bargaining agreement.
Other duties assigned as required by business needs

QualificationsEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in human resources and a minimum of 3 years HR experience. Experience with Paycom strongly preferred. Knowledge of Sage accounting software and experience with unions a plus. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR preferred.

The MSO's standard of excellence extends beyond the concert hall and into the community, reaching more than 40,000 children and their families through its ACE (Arts in Community Education) program, Youth and Teen concerts, Kinderkonzerts, Music for Me concerts, and Behind the Notes pre-concert talks and Friday post-concert Talkbacks. This season, 7,200 students and 1,200 faculty and staff members in 21 Southeastern Wisconsin elementary and middle schools will participate in ACE.
