The Sr. Electrical Engineer will manage the development capacity for customer specific electronics products. You will develop innovative electronic amplifiers and controllers for servo drives.

Essential Functions

  • Design and develop electronics for motion control solutions for brushed (DC) and brushless (BLDC/EC) motors, from concept through schematic design, component evaluation, simulation, and layout to production readiness.
  • Create rapid prototypes of electronics solutions for customer-specific applications. Take ownership through commissioning, testing, and iterative improvement.
  • Commission and tune drive systems to support hardware bring-up and drive system integration.
  • Perform verification and validation of prototypes and pre-production samples against environmental conditions, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Perform low-level embedded software development in C on microcontrollers to support hardware bring-up and drive system integration.
  • Act as the technical interface to maxon’s global R&D hubs in Switzerland and Europe, ensuring alignment on architectures, design standards, and knowledge transfer in both directions.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Sub-project management for control-related tasks in customer projects

Competencies

  • Knowledge of control of drive systems on microcontrollers and experience with PCB design software
  • Analytical mindset with a systematic, methodical approach
  • Strong communicator with ability to interface with customers and distributed international teams
  • Familiarity with embedded systems and motor control ICs or drive electronics
  • Ability to own a design end-to-end, from requirements to working hardware
  • Experience with LabVIEW a plus

  • Bachelor of Science in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent from accredited university
  • ~5-10 years’ experience.
  • 5+ years’ CAD experience (Creo preferred)
  • Practical experience in analog and digital circuit design, preferably in power electronics and drive technology
  • Experience working with electric motors / gears / sensors /controllers (regulated environments a plus)
  • Proven hands-on experience in analog and digital circuit design, ideally for motion control or drive systems applications (small power: BLDC, stepper, DC)
  • Experience with specific requirements and development processes in the industries of our business units: industrial, automotive, medical, and aerospace preferred
  • Microsoft Office functionality
