Do you have a background in early childhood mental health?

Are you skilled in communication and building relationships?

MAHUBE-OTWA is actively seeking a passionate Head Start Mental Health Coordinator to provide vital mental health consultation and support to our staff and families. In this role, you will play a key part in promoting the emotional well-being of young children in our program.

Your expertise will help create a nurturing environment where children can thrive as you work collaboratively with educators to implement best practices in mental health awareness. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, developing personalized mental health strategies, providing training and resources to staff, and engaging with families to support their children's mental health needs.

Pay: $28.39 - $29.91

Schedule: Non-Exempt, Day Shift, Monday – Friday, 40 hours/week, full time, year-round with reduced summer hours & two one-week layoffs spread over the program year

Remote Work: Possible One Day Per Week Remote, may travel within our 5-county area (Mahnomen, Hubbard, Becker, and Otter Tail)

Location(s): Detroit Lakes, MN or Park Rapids, MN

Requirements

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Bachelor's (BS or BA) degree in area to be coordinated (health, education, mental health or family services or a combination of education and experience. 
  • Five years of experience in delivery of comprehensive services for families with children ages birth-5 years including planning, organizing, and supervisory skills; or a demonstrated ability to fulfill the job responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of health, mental health, nutrition, family systems, early childhood development, and developmentally appropriate practices.  
  • Must be able to make decisions relating to program operations. 
  • Knowledge and ability to develop an effective working relationship with partners.
  • Must possess strong organizational and interpersonal relationship skills as well as the ability to be resourceful, flexible, adaptable, and demonstrate commitment.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must have the ability to train parents and staff as well as the ability to express/exchange ideas and provide instructions to staff, clients, and the public.  
  • Must be able and willing to make home visits.
  • First Aid and CPR certification required. 
  • Must possess computer skills including, but not limited to, email, internet, data entry, and computer files.
  • Must be able to honor private/confidential information.
  • Must be able to engage in problem resolution, assess need/problem objectively, and manage crisis situations. 
  • Maintain positive attitude, exhibit professionalism and respect in working and communicating with Head Start staff, families, children and community partners. Work to develop a positive team approach to meeting the needs of children and families.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License, vehicle insurance, good driving record, and willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of employment.  
  •  DHS NetStudy clearance required.
