Build Iconic Tools. Run Advanced Robotics. Own the Process.

At Leatherman, we build tools that last a lifetime. As a Cerakote & Laser Machine Operator, you’ll play a critical role in preparing and coating components for our multi-tools and knives using robotic coating systems, laser and precision equipment.

If you enjoy hands-on machine operation, working with tight tolerances, and taking pride in quality craftsmanship — this could be a great fit.

What You’ll Do

  • Operate robotic coating systems, laser and related equipment to prep, coat, and finish components
  • Perform routine machine setups and changeovers with close tolerances
  • Blast components, mix coating materials, and load/unload robotic fixtures
  • Monitor production output and make mechanical or program adjustments to meet quality and quantity goals
  • Inspect components using micrometers, calipers, comparators, and attribute/variable gaging
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and take initiative to enhance efficiency

Safety & Environmental Responsibility

  • Follow company procedures and Oregon DEQ / federal / local requirements for handling hazardous materials
  • Properly label, store, and dispose of materials
  • Wear required PPE and complete all safety training
  • Immediately report spills or unsafe conditions

Safety is not optional — it’s part of our culture.

What You’ll Bring

  • High School diploma or GED preferred
  • 2+ years of machine operation experience preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude; ability to perform equipment setup and changeovers
  • Experience using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, comparators)
  • Ability to read basic blueprints and perform shop math
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to read and communicate in English (SDS, work instructions, manuals)
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing is a plus
  • NCRC certification preferred

Success Traits

Action-oriented • Collaborative • Accountable • Adaptable • Detail-focused • Trustworthy

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Frequent standing, walking, balancing, and reaching (including overhead)
  • Handling small components; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Well-lit, air-conditioned production environment
  • Exposure to noise, coolant mist/vapor, dust, and lubricants (managed with ventilation systems)
  • PPE provided and required

Why Leatherman?

  • 4-day workweek (Swing shift)
  • Opportunity for additional hours
  • Stable, respected Oregon manufacturer
  • Work on products used worldwide
  • Be part of a team that values craftsmanship and accountability

Out here in Oregon, we’re used to getting things done—you could call it our pioneering spirit. It’s why Leatherman Tool Group is proud to support U.S. workers who, just like our founder Tim Leatherman, are dedicated to the quality craftsmanship that goes into each of our original American multi-tools. After spending his childhood in Oregon, Tim Leatherman stayed local and received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University. A low-budget, post-college trip abroad, which included many fix-it situations, convinced Tim of the need for a pliers based multi-purpose tool. Once back home in the states, Tim set to work developing his idea. On July 5, 1983 Leatherman Tool Group, Inc. was officially incorporated based on a few simple principles: manufacture quality products that deliver excellent value to the consumer while providing good, living-wage jobs to the local workforce. More than thirty years later we’re still going strong in the U.S., in our home town of Portland, Oregon. Every multi-tool and knife we make is crafted by one of the 600 Oregonians who call Leatherman a great place to work, and we stand behind our products with a no-questions-asked 25 year warranty. When asked about the company’s devotion to quality, Tim always replies, “It has to be perfect; my name is on every tool.” We’re proud to live and work in the USA and it shows in every original multi-tool and knife we make. Leatherman. Leave nothing undone.
