Job Summary
Assist the maintenance technicians in the performance of engineering duties onboard the vessel as directed by the port engineer. Assist the maintenance technicians in the performance of preventive and corrective maintenance.
Essential Functions – the following are essential functions of the job but are not all-inclusive.
Assist in the performance of daily, weekly, monthly or hourly preventative maintenance as directed by port engineer
Maintain safe and clean engine rooms and work areas
Properly process and pump sewage and oily water, following all regulations
Fill fresh water tanks as necessary
Assist in fueling the vessel, following all regulations
Defer to, and act in support of port engineer in the event of a real or simulated emergency
Participate in meetings as required by the vessel superintendent
Assist in hands-on repairs and improvement projects as workload and criticality requires
Assist maintenance technicians in the inspection of safety equipment to verify the location, condition, and markings are in compliance with USCG requirements; assists USCG in annual inspections of safety equipment; and enforce safety and USCG navigational laws
Present professional level of customer service and appearance to all – internal and external
Comply with rules and regulations contained in the crew handbook and as directed by supervisor including, but not limited to:
Report to work on time and ready for duty;
Depart the vessel(s) only when properly relieved;
Ensure that the proper uniform is worn and grooming standards are met;
Complete required administrative forms clearly and accurately
Avoid Chicago traffic with the Lake Michigan fast ferry shortcut. Just 2-1/2 hours from Wisconsin to Michigan.
