Position Summary
The Orthopedic MA assists in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. This role is responsible for applying and removing casts, splints, and braces, assisting with orthopedic procedures, preparing patients for examinations, performing x-rays, and ensuring proper patient education regarding orthopedic care and devices.
Primary Job Duties include
Provide superior customer service and care to all patients
Ability to empathize with our patients while providing quality medical care
Educate our patients on all services that we offer to make sure they receive great healthcare
Perform nursing procedures under supervision of physician or other provider
Assist provider in exam rooms
Greet and escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs, & chart in EMR system
Administer injections, run x-rays, swab, and perform other routine nursing duties as required
Give instructions to patients as instructed by provider
Ensure all related reports, labs and other information are filed and available in patients’ medical records prior to their appointment
Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies and maintain instruments
Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls, and forward calls to providers and other staff
Schedule patients for any appointments as needed and audit charts to schedule well-child appointments
Support a team-based environment by remaining flexible with scheduling and location assignments, including floating to other clinics when needed to maintain quality patient care.
Apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints, braces, and orthopedic immobilization devices.
Assist with orthopedic procedures such as fracture care, joint injections, reductions, and wound care.
Prepare patients for examinations and procedures by positioning, draping, and ensuring necessary equipment is available.
Removes sutures and staples as directed by the provider.
Educate patients on cast care, brace usage, wound care, and post-procedure instructions.
Document treatments, procedures, and patient interactions accurately in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Maintain and sterilize orthopedic instruments and equipment.
Monitor patients for signs of complications such as swelling, circulation issues, or infection and report concerns to the provider.
Assist with inventory management of casting supplies, braces, and orthopedic equipment.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and clinic safety policies.
Provide general clinical support including rooming patients and preparing exam rooms.
Perform x-rays to be read by provider
All other duties as assigned by nursing director

QualificationsRequired Education
High school diploma or GED certificate
Experience
Two years of experience in a clinic or direct patient care preferred. May substitute graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program for the experience requirement.
