Position Summary: The Systems Engineer is the primary engineering resource for one or more concurrent JLS jobs. This position is responsible for the technical outcome of a project and requires competent leadership. Engineering tasks often include the configuration of robots and vision systems, CAD design, and specification of vendor-supplied equipment. This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Systems Engineering Manager.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Overall responsibility for technical project execution
Conceptually designs automation, motion control, and robotic solutions to meet the expectation of the customer order
Performs internal design reviews with all project disciplines
Delegates, mentors, and directs Commissioning Engineers and Associate System Engineers
Writes the scope of work and the design workbook for the project
Works with the Project Manager to ensure an overall great customer experience
Gives technical guidance to design, controls, and software engineering
Configures and assists in the setup of the robotic program and vision systems
Provides equipment startup supervision or assistance at JLS and at the customer site
Coordinates and leads technical meetings between JLS and customers/vendors
Collaborates with customers to solve technical problems
Supports meeting project deadlines and project budget estimates
Advises customers as a technical expert before and after the sale
Supports creation of drawings, documentation packages, and user manuals
Works with purchasing department to acquire material necessary to complete projects
Responsible for approving purchase requisitions as applicable
Other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, Systems, Automation, or other related engineering field
4+ years of technical/professional experience within a related industry
Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical prints/schematics
Ability to prioritize when tasked with multiple projects at the same time
Capability to work mostly independent and be a problem solver
Possesses qualities to be able to productively lead a group of 2-5 members
Capital equipment design knowledge preferred
Experience in the food packaging industry, is preferred
Basic understanding of safety standards and knowledge of sanitary standards is preferred
Knowledge of project management, motion control, robotics, vision systems, and automation is preferred
Basic knowledge of SolidWorks or similar 3D software is preferred
Must be able to travel up to 25%
Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship
Work Environment
Environment: Corporate office that requires regular use of desk, computer, keyboard, mouse, phone, and printers. May be subject to cold, wet, or hot manufacturing environments for periods of 8 hours or more.
Travel Requirements: 25%
Physical: Lift, push, and pull up to 50lbs; fine manual dexterity, often sit and stand for extended periods of time.
