Full job description

The Communications Coordinator leads MO-ORA's (Missouri Office of Refugee Administration, a private non-profit arm of the International Institute of St. Louis) communications efforts, ensuring efficiency and smooth workflow. They are responsible for developing communication plans to raise brand awareness and public interest, including distributing newsletters, managing web and social content, and creating outreach materials. They will also foster and maintain positive relationships with internal and external parties such as local resettlement agencies, immigrant service providers, and other partners at the national level.

Expected Start Date: August 10

 

Essential Responsibilities:

1. (55%) Communications. This work may include but is not limited to:

  • Managing the content, design and distribution of bi-weekly and quarterly MO-ORA newsletters.
  • Develop and distribute social posts (Facebook, Instagram) writing copy, sourcing images, and creating graphics.
  • Update and maintain moora.org, adding new content and ensuring existing pages remain relevant.
  • Write blogs for moora.org, averaging 1-2 posts per month, including program updates, partner spotlights, and event recaps.
  • Evaluate performance metrics to improve MO-ORA's website and social media campaigns.
  • Stay abreast of current best practices regarding social media management and nonprofit marketing.

2. (35%) Outreach. This work may include but is not limited to:

  • Represent MO-ORA within selected organizations to share information and connect other organizations to refugee resources.
  • Identify, coordinate, and conduct community presentation opportunities about MO-ORA programs and refugee-related topics.
  • Lead the creation of slide decks, flyers, brochures, and other education materials for general use.
  • Communicate regularly with staff, stakeholders, and other interested parties regarding MO-ORA's programs and services.
  • Field and respond to public/media inquiries in a friendly and timely manner by regularly monitoring MO-ORA's email account.
  • Lead and execute event planning including for World Refugee Day, Welcoming Week, and MO-ORA Quarterly Meetings.

3. (5%) Impact reporting. This work may include but is not limited to:

  • Ensuring that communications and outreach milestones/goals are met
  • Reporting program progress and outcomes including creation of annual program impact reports

4. (5%) Performs other tasks as required. This work may include, but is not limited to:

  • Interacting with community members relative to current projects and initiatives;
  • Participating in departmental and organizational meetings and events;
  • Performing other assigned duties as necessary for the successful operation of the organization.

 

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field. Those with the equivalent level of experience are also encouraged to apply.
  • 1-3 years of related experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Ability Requirements:

  • Excellent and verbal communications skills as well as interpersonal skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Proficient in using social media platforms and planning tools
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and meet deadlines
  • Ability to tailor content and messaging to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong working knowledge of Canva, Microsoft Office, Hootsuite, Squarespace, Constant Contact, and Zoom.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, as well as critical thinking ability
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Ability to treat confidential information with sensitivity
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards
  • Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work within constantly changing priorities
  • Familiar with the unique challenges and opportunities that nonprofits face, as well as the legal and ethical standards that govern their work.
  • Have a genuine passion for the organization's mission
