About ICP

The International Center of Photography (ICP) is the world's leading institution dedicated to photography and visual culture. Through our exhibitions, education, public programs, and community outreach, we offer an open forum for dialogue about the power of the image. Since our founding in 1974, we have presented more than 700 exhibitions and offered thousands of classes, providing instruction at every level. Our new integrated center on the Lower East Side reunites our school and museum in one space to become the cultural anchor of Essex Crossing.

Position Summary

ICP is seeking friendly, reliable, and customer service-oriented individuals to join our team as Seasonal Visitor Experience Associates. This position serves as the first point of contact for museum visitors, providing an exceptional guest experience through warm engagement, clear communication, and professionalism.

The role supports ICP's ticketing, retail, and café operations, with a particular focus on weekend café coverage. Ideal candidates will have retail experience, confidence handling cash and point-of-sale transactions, and a genuine interest in connecting with the public in a museum setting.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist visitors, offering information about exhibitions, programs, and membership.
  • Process ticket, shop, and café sales; handle cash and credit transactions accurately.
  • Restock and maintain merchandise and café areas, ensuring displays are clean and organized.
  • Provide accurate information about ICP's programs and events.
  • Support special events and public programs as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • At least one year of retail or customer service experience, including handling cash and point-of-sale transactions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a visitor-facing setting.
  • Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability to work both Saturdays and Sundays is required, with occasional evening or additional shifts as needed.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a café, coffee shop, or barista role.
  • Prior experience in a museum, gallery, or other cultural institution.
  • Multilingual communication skills.
  • Interest or background in photography or visual culture.

Working Conditions

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods while facilitating programs or preparing materials.
  • Ability to move throughout museum galleries, classrooms, and public spaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move educational materials and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support museum programs and special events.

Compensation and Schedule

  • Seasonal, part-time hourly role at $22.00/hour.
  • Weekend availability is required, including both Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Typical shifts will primarily support café operations, with opportunities to pick up additional shifts based on operational needs.

The International Center of Photography is committed to equal opportunity employment. We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are values integral to offering an open forum for dialogue around photography and visual culture that is open to all. Through this lens, we strive to engage, educate, and inspire our visitors, students, employees, and community.
