SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Reporting to the Chief of Protection Services, this role leads the design, development, and implementation of Ingenium’s Occupational Health and Safety Program to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, including the Canada Labour Code.
The position provides expert guidance to the OHS Committee, Health and Safety Representatives, unions, managers, and staff, and overseas key programs such as the Hazard Prevention Program (HPP) and WHMIS. Responsibilities also include developing training and awareness initiatives, reviewing and enhancing policies and procedures, and managing related service contracts and projects (e.g., hazardous waste disposal, life safety systems inspections and testing).
The incumbent supports contract tendering processes and advises management and employees on workplace incidents, refusals to work, and other health and safety matters.
EDUCATION
- Diploma in the field of Health and Safety or an equivalent combination, experience and job knowledge as outlined in this work description.
- Occupational Health and Safety Certification would be an asset
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 3 years in the field of OSH as an advisor with diverse environments including manufacturing, production, heights and chemical exposures
KNOWLEDGE
The work requires comprehensive and extensive knowledge of the following design, develop, implement and maintain an OHS program for the INGENIUM:
- Part II of the Canada Labour Code;
- Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations;
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS);
- The Hazardous Products Act (HPA) and the Controlled Products Regulations (CPR);
- Provincial, federal and territorial agencies responsible for occupational health and safety;
- Employment and Social Development Canada (formerly Human Resources and Social Development Canada - HRSDC) and Health Canada;
- Operations Program Directives (OPDs) for Occupational Health and Safety;
- Labour Code Compliance Policy;
- Promotion, education and presentation techniques and practices;
- Policy development techniques and practices;
- Federal and Supreme court decisions that impact Occupational Health and Safety legislation to interpret and apply these in the work.
