Non-Exempt

General Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, this position performs skilled work involving the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the golf course irrigation system, including the Toro two-wire system and HDPE pipe infrastructure. The position also performs turf maintenance, equipment operation, and general golf course maintenance while assisting with employee training and supporting daily operations to ensure the golf course is maintained in a safe, efficient, and high-quality condition.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Primarily responsible for the daily operation, monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the Toro two-wire irrigation system, including controllers, valves, wiring, HDPE pipe repairs, sprinklers, and pumping systems.

Provides lead direction to maintenance employees in the absence of supervisory staff and participates in golf course mowing and turf maintenance operations. Operates a variety of mowing equipment to maintain all playing surfaces and trims vegetation in designated areas.

Assists in coordinating daily work assignments for maintenance crews and supports routine maintenance activities, improvement projects, course condition monitoring, weather-related operations, and recordkeeping.

Assists in training, coaching, and monitoring part-time and seasonal employees in golf course maintenance procedures, with an emphasis on irrigation operations and safe work practices.

Diagnoses irrigation system issues, performs or recommends appropriate repairs, notifies the Supervisor of significant problems, and assists in identifying turf health concerns, pests, or disease. Applies fertilizers and pesticides as directed and maintains accurate application records.

Participates in golf course improvement projects, including but not limited to seeding, sodding, grading, carpentry, painting, plumbing, and irrigation system expansions, upgrades, and repairs.

Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins, as operational needs require.

Maintains punctuality and dependable attendance while meeting all performance expectations, including work deadlines and scheduled breaks.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license.

Strong working knowledge of Toro two-wire irrigation systems, including automatic valves, controllers, HDPE pipe installation and repair, and pumping systems.

Working knowledge of basic electrical and hydraulic principles related to irrigation systems.

Knowledge of the tools, methods, materials, and equipment used in golf course and landscape maintenance.

Ability to diagnose irrigation system failures and determine appropriate corrective action.

Ability to read irrigation maps, system plans, and related technical information.

Ability to safely operate light motorized equipment and maintenance tools.

Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and seasonal staff.

Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and work independently with minimal supervision.

Education/Experience

High school diploma or GED required.

Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in golf course irrigation, landscape irrigation, or closely related maintenance work preferred.

Experience operating and maintaining Toro two-wire irrigation systems and HDPE pipe infrastructure strongly preferred.

Experience in troubleshooting irrigation, electrical, hydraulic, and pumping systems preferred.

Experience training or providing lead direction to seasonal or part-time employees is desirable.

Working Environment/Physical Activities

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods.

Work is performed primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, vibration, oils, water, fertilizers, pesticides, and other environmental conditions associated with golf course maintenance.

May be required to respond to emergency irrigation repairs or operational needs outside of normal working hours.
