Full job description

As Hexium advances from laboratory demonstration toward commercial deployment, strong federal partnerships will be essential to accelerating commercialization, securing strategic investment, and supporting the deployment of our technology.

The Vice President of Government Affairs reports directly to the CEO and leads Hexium's federal engagement strategy. Working closely with the executive leadership team, you'll build trusted relationships across the Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Congress, and other key federal stakeholders while advancing government partnerships and strategic funding opportunities that support the company's long-term objectives.

This is a strategic leadership role that combines government affairs, federal partnerships, and commercialization strategy to help position Hexium as a trusted long-term partner in strengthening America's nuclear fuel cycle.

Key Responsibilities

Federal Strategy & Government Engagement

  • Develop and execute Hexium's federal engagement strategy in partnership with the CEO and executive leadership.
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships across the DOE, NNSA, NRC, Congress, national laboratories, and other federal stakeholders critical to Hexium's mission.
  • Represent Hexium in meetings, briefings, industry forums, and other engagements with government stakeholders.
  • Monitor federal policy, legislative, and regulatory developments, translating them into strategic guidance for the CEO and executive team.

Federal Partnerships, Agreements & Funding

  • Lead negotiation, execution, and management of strategic federal agreements and non-dilutive funding mechanisms, structuring them to advance Hexium's technology development, commercialization, and infrastructure objectives while protecting the company's interests.
  • Serve as executive owner of key government program relationships, coordinating with internal technical, legal, regulatory, and finance teams as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in federal government affairs, government relations, federal partnerships, public policy, or a related leadership role.
  • Existing relationships within the Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Congress, national laboratories, or other federal organizations relevant to the nuclear enterprise.
  • Experience supporting the nuclear fuel cycle or advanced nuclear technologies specifically.
  • Experience negotiating or managing strategic agreements with federal agencies or supporting complex government partnership initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of federal funding and financing mechanisms, including grants, cooperative agreements, loan programs, and other non-dilutive funding opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex scientific or technical concepts to senior government officials, policymakers, and executive leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • This role will be exposed to export-controlled and classified information and requires compliance with applicable export control regulations and eligibility to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior direct employment at DOE, NNSA, or on Capitol Hill.
  • Experience leading negotiations for DOE partnership agreements, including OTAs, CRADAs, SPPs, or similar federal agreements.
  • Experience supporting a DOE Loan Programs Office (LPO) loan guarantee or similar federal financing initiative.
  • Existing DOE or DOD security clearance.
  • Advanced degree in public policy, law, business, or a related field.

  • Frequent travel to Washington, DC required for federal agency and congressional engagement
