About Us
HBK Engineering, LLC is a fully licensed, professional engineering design firm headquartered in Chicago, IL with a staff approaching 700 individuals. HBK provides civil, environmental, structural, electrical, subsurface utility, construction support services and permitting facilitation. Since our founding in 1998, we have earned a reputation for delivering outstanding, accurate services in extremely time-sensitive, multilayered environments. That "industry-recognized" performance has propelled our expansion and the ability to provide engineering services in all 50 states. With 25 offices nationwide, including concentrations in the Midwest and on the Coasts, HBK brings together a dedicated team whose main focus is the design and protection of utilities and utility networks. We have successfully performed engineering work for a complete spectrum of utility infrastructure projects providing solutions and construction support from Coast to Coast in areas ranging from complex urban city centers, to rural greenfields, to limited access rights-of-way. In July 2020, HBK Engineering was acquired by Quanta Services. Quanta Services provides infrastructure services for electric power, pipeline, and communications industries and employees over 50,000 people. Quanta’s focus on the utility industry and HBK’s focus on constructability in our designs has made our integration into the Quanta family of companies seamless.
About this Role
At HBK Engineering, a Safety Specialist in Midland, TX (West Texas Region) is a dedicated occupational health and safety professional responsible for proactively identifying workplace hazards, evaluating risks, and implementing policies and controls that protect the health, safety, and well-being of all employees. This role focuses exclusively on safety as a primary discipline, bringing technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and strong analytical skills to ensure a safe and compliant work environment across underground facility construction, locating, design, and surveying field activities.
Unlike a Safety Coordinator, who may support safety while balancing broader operational duties, the Safety Specialist’s sole professional emphasis is on assisting with developing, executing, and improving safety programs. This includes conducting field audits, performing incident investigations, analyzing trends, supporting training initiatives, and ensuring adherence to federal, state, and company safety standards. Through strategic guidance, coaching, and continuous monitoring, the Safety Specialist plays a key role in reducing risk, preventing incidents, and fostering a culture of safety excellence across the organization.

What You'll Bring
Conduct regular, scheduled site audits/visits across the West Texas project footprint

Proficiency with digital data capture tools, mobile tech devices, and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills to interact with field crews, clients, and leadership
Experience delivering safety training or presenting to groups
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound field judgment
Physical Stamina:
Ability to travel frequently between project sites, drive for extended periods, and work outdoors in all weather conditions (including high heat/humidity and uneven terrain)
Ability to stand, walk, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs
Current OSHA 30 Certification required

Access to industry-leading software, training resources, and career-development pathways.
