Position Summary

The Director of Human Resources provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all human resources functions across Easterseals South Florida. This position is responsible for developing and implementing human capital strategies that support the organization's mission, strategic objectives, workforce needs, and organizational culture. The Director ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations while fostering an inclusive, high-performing workplace that attracts, develops, and retains talented employees.

The Director oversees talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits administration, performance management, training and development, HR compliance, payroll oversight, risk management, and employee engagement initiatives. This position serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and managers on workforce planning, organizational development, and employee matters.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the President & CEO, Chief Administrative Officer, and leadership team to develop and implement human capital strategies aligned with organizational goals and strategic priorities. 
  • Assess organizational structure, staffing models, reporting relationships, and workforce needs, making recommendations to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and employee engagement. 
  • Lead workforce planning, succession planning, employee development, and retention initiatives. 
  • Develop and monitor HR metrics and key performance indicators to support informed decision-making. 

Human Resources Management

  • Direct all human resources functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, compensation, benefits administration, leave administration, and employee separation processes. 
  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and practices that promote compliance and operational excellence. 
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations, including FMLA, ADA, EEOC, HIPAA, OSHA, and other federal, state, and local requirements. 
  • Serve as the primary advisor to management regarding employee relations matters, investigations, corrective actions, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes. 
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in handling sensitive personnel matters. 

Talent Acquisition and Employee Development

  • Lead recruitment and retention strategies to attract, hire, and retain qualified and diverse talent. 
  • Oversee onboarding and orientation programs to support employee success and engagement. 
  • Develop employee recognition, engagement, leadership development, and professional growth initiatives. 
  • Collaborate with department leaders to identify training needs and implement workforce development programs. 

Compensation, Benefits, and Payroll Oversight

  • Oversee employee benefits programs and evaluate benefit offerings to ensure competitiveness and cost effectiveness. 
  • Collaborate with Finance to ensure accurate and timely payroll administration and compliance. 
  • Participate in compensation analysis, salary administration, and benefits planning. 

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure timely completion and monitoring of Level 2 background screening requirements and maintain systems for tracking and notification. 
  • Oversee personnel records management and HR information systems, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality. 
  • Coordinate responses to unemployment claims, workers' compensation cases, audits, and regulatory reviews. 
  • Support organizational risk management initiatives related to workforce compliance and employment practices. 

Safety and Emergency Preparedness

  • Promote a safe work environment for employees, volunteers, visitors, and individuals receiving services. 
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning and ensure compliance with agency safety procedures. 
  • Perform assigned responsibilities during emergency situations, drills, and disaster response activities. 

Quality Improvement

  • Participate in agency-wide quality improvement and performance management initiatives. 
  • Support accreditation, licensing, and contractual compliance requirements related to human resources functions. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational effectiveness and mission fulfillment. 

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field. 
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive human resources experience, including at least three (3) years in a leadership or management role. Experience working in a nonprofit, healthcare, social services, early childhood education, or Head Start environment.
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification preferred; SHRM-CP or PHR considered
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices. 
  • Demonstrated experience in employee relations, recruitment, performance management, compensation, benefits administration, and compliance. 
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations and managing complex employee relations matters. 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. 
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) highly preferred. 

 

Reporting Relationships

Reports To: Chief Administrative Officer

Supervises: Human Resources Generalist, Recruiter, HR Coordinator, Payroll/Benefits Staff, and other Human Resources personnel as assigned.
