Responsibilities

Provide person-centered support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to help them achieve independence and community inclusion. Duties include facilitating community outings, supporting employment goals, and maintaining daily activity records.

Requirements

Candidates must possess a Class 7 N driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and First Aid/CPR certification. Ability to provide personal care and maneuver a wheelchair is required, while experience with the Mandt System is an asset.

About Us

The Community Living Society (CLS) is an innovative non-profit organization which since 1978 has been dedicated to supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities so that they can live full, productive and meaningful lives. We are leaders in providing quality Person Centred support through our residential, individualized and community based supports so that people can reach their greatest potential. We have over 500 employees and work with over 400 individuals throughout the Lower Mainland. 

 

The L.I.F.E. program is designed for those who wish to be employed, to grow, develop independence, expand their personal networks, and develop friendships. L.I.F.E services is a community employment and inclusion service with the focus on supporting the person in four key areas:

  • Lifelong Learning
  • Inclusion and Involvement in their communities
  • Developing Friendships and Relationships
  • Employment

 

About the Opportunity

Your role as a support worker will be providing support and actively engaging a supported individual to live a fulfilling and increasingly independent life. You are a motivated and outgoing person with a passion to for person-centered supports. This means you could be helping an individual to discover more of their community, learn new life-skills, find employment and more. Some of your duties can include:

  • Providing individuals support with various life goals
  • Community outings (including, but not limited to volunteering, paid employment and leisure activities)
  • Maintaining records of daily activities and goal progression  
  • Supporting the individuals to increase their network of unpaid supports

 

Available Positions 

Position #1 Permanent Full-time

  • Monday 8:00am-6:30pm
  • Tuesday 8:00am-6:30pm
  • Wednesday 8:00am-6:30pm
  • Thursday 8:00am-6:30pm
  • Friday 8:00am-6:30pm

*Shifts Vary and Require Flexibility, Weekends & Evenings May be Required.

About You

You are interested in supporting others and show an understanding of the person-centered and active support approach. Additionally, you have the following requirements:  

Required:  

  • Class 7 N driver's license
  • Access to a reliable vehicle
  • Ability to maneuver a wheel chair
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Clear criminal record (paid by CLS)
  • Clean driver’s abstract
  • Comfortable navigating transit system
  • Comfortable supporting in a pool (swimming activities) and gym setting
  • Comfortable with personal care

Assets:

  • Prior paid or volunteer experience
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training
  • Knowledge of Mandt System®
  • Knowledge of Person Centered Active Supports
  • Comfortable standing/walking for long periods of time

Wage:  Starting from $27.80 per hour 

Benefits: Compass Card covered by CLS; $30 per month phone allowance
