Responsibilities

POSITION OVERVIEW

 

The Project Engineering Manager holds overall responsibility for the engineering function on large EPC projects. This role provides strategic technical direction, ensures engineering deliverables support project objectives, manages multi-disciplinary engineering teams, and oversees EPC contractor engineering performance. The Project Engineering Manager is accountable for overall technical integrity, design stewardship, and full alignment of engineering with cost, schedule, quality, and operability requirements.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

•    Serve as the single point of accountability for all engineering activities from concept through commissioning.

•    Develop and execute the Engineering Execution Plan, including design philosophies, work processes, verification requirements, and interfaces.

•    Ensure the engineering strategy supports safe, reliable, maintainable, and operable LNG assets across their lifecycle.

•    Lead the engineering team and oversee EPC engineering organizations, ensuring technical competency, adequate resourcing, and appropriate discipline coverage.

•    Establish clear expectations, work priorities, technical procedures, and deliverable quality standards.

•    Mentor superintendents, project engineers, and discipline engineers to strengthen organizational capability.

•    Maintain final authority on major technical decisions, design changes, deviations, and standards waivers.

•    Ensure the design meets corporate technical requirements, regulatory obligations, and safety standards—including process safety, reliability, and environmental compliance.

•    Chair design reviews, model reviews, risk assessments, and technical readiness gates.

•    Provide oversight and direction to EPC contractor engineering managers, ensuring progress, productivity, and quality meet contract requirements.

•    Manage engineering interfaces with internal stakeholders, operations, supply chain, and external parties.

•    Champion early engagement with operations and maintenance teams to embed operability and maintainability in design.

•    Own the engineering schedule and ensure critical path alignment with procurement, construction, and commissioning needs.

•    Lead evaluation of engineering changes, ensuring clear technical justification and cost/schedule impacts.

•    Maintain visibility into engineering budgets, hours, progress curves, and productivity metrics.

•    Ensure engineering deliverables fully support construction execution planning, field installation, and pre-startup safety reviews.

•    Foster a strong relationship between engineering, construction, and commissioning teams to streamline turnover and minimize rework.

•    Lead resolution of late-stage technical issues impacting commissioning or startup readiness.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

 

Knowledge:

 

Requires comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles, design standards, and project execution practices applicable to EPC LNG projects. Strong understanding of process engineering fundamentals and the interaction of mechanical, piping, civil, electrical, instrumentation, controls, and rotating equipment disciplines through the project lifecycle. Knowledge of front-end engineering design (FEED), detailed engineering, constructability, commissioning, and project closeout processes. Detailed knowledge of quality assurance / quality control, commissioning, start up, and turnover requirements from an owner/operator side. 

 

Skills:

  • Strong leadership, teamwork and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Organized and able to manage multiple activities and programs timely and with a high degree of accuracy. 
  • The ability to achieve a range of priorities on an ongoing daily basis, by coordinating labor while maintaining high standards of quality and integrity.
  • High degree of personal motivation to maintain accurate and consistent counts and issues, ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and to prioritize work correctly, strong player and an ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment.
  • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills. 
  • A high level of safety awareness and knowledge of applicable Industry design regulations is required.
  • Computer literate with typical office packages.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

 

Education, Training and Certifications: 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, electrical, or civil engineering required. Related engineering degrees may be considered in conjunction with relevant experience.  PMP or equivalent preferred.

 

Experience: Minimum fifteen (15)+ years of progressive project engineering experience on large EPC projects. LNG or oil and gas EPC project experience is required. Previous leadership experience is required.

 

DIRECT REPORTS

Project engineering team as assigned per the project. 

 

FREEDOM TO ACT

Ability to multi-task and function in a highly dynamic atmosphere; must exercise discretion independently with minimal supervision. Must be able to direct the work of others by setting priorities and holding team accountable. 

 

WORK CONDITIONS 

  • Job is performed in an industrial construction environment. 

  • Will be required to work after normal work hours and on weekends. 

  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations or as required by Cheniere.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, work at height above ground on stairs and catwalks, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, smell, type and write. 

  • Must be able to scale a vertical steel ladder up to forty feet or more in height and lift and move objects weighting up to 50 pounds.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work indoors and outdoors, and be exposed to year-around weather conditions, ocean environment, and noise. There is a considerable amount of outdoor activities involved. 

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 

  • Required to pass regularly scheduled physical examinations mandated by regulatory authorities

  • Required to obtain mandated certification by attending Company-sponsored training in basic first aid and CPR.

  • Must maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing status.
