Full job description

Lead the shop that keeps a growing transit system moving.

BCRTA is one of Ohio's fastest-growing transit agencies. We delivered more than 820,000 rides last year and we are expanding service, modernizing our fleet, and rethinking how a public maintenance operation should run. We are looking for a Maintenance Manager who wants to grow with us and put their stamp on a shop that is going places.

This is a builder's role, not a caretaker's. If you know your way around a maintenance bay and you are ready to lead, this is the role that lets you prove what you can do.

What you will own

You will run the day-to-day of one of our vehicle maintenance operation depots: the fleet, the equipment, and most importantly the team of technicians who keep it all road-ready. You will set the schedule, plan and track the work, develop your people, and make sure every bus is safe and ready when service starts.

You will also help us run a modern shop. We use an HRIS for scheduling, a work order management system for planning and tracking labor, and digital timekeeping, and we want a manager who sees those tools as an advantage, not a chore. If you get a little excited about clean data, smart scheduling, and a dashboard that actually tells you something, you will fit right in here.

What we are looking for

We hire for capability, leadership, and attitude. The person who thrives here will bring:

  • A genuine interest in the work and in technology, and the drive to keep learning as the fleet and the tools evolve
  • Hands-on vehicle maintenance experience strong enough to earn the respect of the technicians you lead (at least 2 years required)
  • Proven leadership ability: the skill to motivate a team, hold people accountable fairly, and turn a group of technicians into a high-performing crew
  • A positive, solutions-first attitude, especially when the day does not go to plan
  • Comfort with computerized maintenance management, scheduling, and work order systems, or the drive to master them quickly

The basics

High school diploma required. Automotive technical training, or a degree in business, operations, or engineering, is a strong plus. CDL with appropriate endorsements, or the ability to obtain one. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to DOT physical qualification standards.

Why BCRTA

You will join an agency that is investing in its future and in its people. You will report to the Director of Maintenance and Infrastructure, have real ownership of your operation, and have a direct hand in shaping how BCRTA grows. For a manager ready to lead, this is a chance to take on meaningful responsibility and build something you are proud of.

Ready to lead the shop behind a growing transit system? We want to hear from you."

Applications are public records and will only be reviewed once for each position. Applicants must submit a separate application for each position of interest. BCRTA applications do not represent a contract of employment.

"BCRTA states as its policy a commitment to provide equal opportunity to all persons in matters affecting all employment processes (including but not limited to recruitment or recruitment advertising, hiring, upgrading, selection for training, promotion, transfer, demotion, layoff, termination, rates of pay, or other forms of compensation) without regard to a person’s race, color, religion, national origin, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), age, genetic information, or veterans status.

Further, BCRTA is committed to complying with Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act and prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability. BCRTA will make accommodations that are reasonable and not unduly burdensome to enable qualified disabled applicants and employees to participate in the employment process and perform essential job functions.
