The Mechanical CAD Designer creates 3D models, technical drawings, and project layouts in accordance with company and client standards. They are responsible for updating as-built drawings and maintaining accurate design archives.

Requirements

Requires an associate degree or professional training in drafting, design, or engineering with proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office. Experience in the oil and gas industry and AutoCAD Plant 3D is preferred.

Job Summary:
The Mechanical CAD Designer works with the Engineering staff to provide designs, plans, project layouts, and contract documents in accordance with company design standards and client requirements. This person assists in the development of all the drawings and sketches required to complete a project design in a particular discipline. Communicates design issues and problems with manager and other staff as needed.



Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and redlines.
  • Create and modify 3D models using AutoCAD based software.
  • Prepare various technical drawings, such as layouts, plans, detail drawings, fabrication and assembly drawings such as isometrics, and summarized reports.
  • Update and revise existing drawings as required and correct “as-built” drawings.
  • Maintain accurate design and drawing archives and revision histories.
  • Provide direct support to the execution team regarding drafting-related questions.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Communicate effectively while working in a team environment.
  • Compute basic calculations.

Education & Experience:

Basic

  • A.S. degree or professional training in drafting and design, engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Basic understanding of AutoCAD required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Onsite support and travel are required occasionally.

Education & Experience:

Preferred

  • Experience in the oil and gas industry preferred but not required.
  • Drafting experience in AutoCAD Plant 3D preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job (but are not limited to). The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods of time, unassisted. Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate office machinery are required. This job also requires full range of body motion to include handling and lifting. The incumbent must repeatedly lift and/or move up to 30 (THIRTY) pounds unassisted. Visual acuity, hearing, speaking, reading, and writing must be adequate to perform all required tasks in a safe manner.



Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Work is usually done indoors and sometimes (rarely) at a client facility or job site. The incumbent may be expected to travel to other work sites with prior notice.
