ARM Energy’s Energy Services team is seeking qualified candidates for a Power Originator ideally based out of our Houston office to cover Texas and West power markets.
Position Overview
The Power Originator will be responsible for identifying new customer opportunities, managing existing customer relationships, executing contracts and structuring power purchase and off-take agreements.
Primary Responsibilities
• Originate, structure and execute bilateral deals/contracts for Power, Capacity, and Ancillary Services in North America. These include but are not limited to: Short- and Mid-Term Power (physical and financial), renewable power purchase agreements (solar and wind), structuring of tolling agreements and other system wide optimization agreements.
• Establish, manage, and grow relationship network with existing and new customers
• Lead the structuring, negotiation and execution of financeable transactions with target customers
• Manage and grow power offtake customer base across in ERCOT and other ISOs (CAISO, Texas and PJM).
• Work with the modeling teams to value proposed off-take transactions
• Maintain knowledge of current market developments, regulation/legislation and industry trends
• Participate in industry networking events and conduct client meetings with the goal of growing company exposure and building book
• Execute Power Origination strategy map
QualificationsStrong understanding of ISDA Power Annex and EEI contract forms and project liens
- Deep understanding of competitive electricity markets, particularly ERCOT and CAISO
- Comfortable managing contract execution from start to finish
- Ability to work on numerous projects at once
- Strong collaboration skills to work across departments
- Comfortable making pitch decks and marketing materials
- Strong communication skills and able to present to the Executive team & clients
- Ability to envision new off-take concepts & deliver them from concept to transaction execution
- Strong quantitative skills and comfort working in Excel financial models
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Marketing, Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Engineering
- 7+ years of experience executing power, REC, and capacity transactions
- 3 to 5 years of related experience in this environment
- Familiarity with supply and demand fundamentals and customer contacts in one or more of the defined regional markets
- Proven ability to negotiate and close complex deals
- Understanding of flexible agreements including Asset Management Agreements
- Strong commercial acumen with experience integrating energy markets and value maximization strategies across natural gas value chain (upstream, midstream and downstream markets)
- Demonstrable ability to develop strong working relationships with all levels and business units of the organization
- Ability to work independently and effectively with a team
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills required
- Strong analytical, evaluation skills
- Pragmatic and entrepreneurial minded- able to take initiative and ownership of assignments
- Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously with extreme attention to detail
