Today I am delighted to announce that I am joining Appsheet to lead its product and engineering team. What decided me to come out of semi-retirement for this role is the strong belief I have in the impact Appsheet's mission and product can and will have on commercial and non-profit organizations of every size and with any mobile based business applications needs. Like Tableau did 10 years ago when it democratized BI and Data visualization technology for all, Appsheet has a great potential to make building mobile based productivity application something accessible and possible to all organizations with no development skills required. Whether your team/organization has a list/inventory management need, or a mobile fleet or employee population tracking needs, or a location survey needs, Appsheet can enable your teams with low or no IT budget and resources to build your own fully customized mobile business application at very low cost. And yes, we are hiring in all disciplines... check our career listing here: https://angel.co/company/appsheet/jobs 2 - My Appsheet app detail.png 1 - My Appsheet app Overview.png
AppSheet's mission to empower people to innovate, create mobile experiences and apps themselves, and to use those apps every day with their teams is magic. Their no-code, fast path from innovative idea to business app is simply mesmerizing. From a set of data in a Google spreadsheet to a fully location-aware, offline-online smart deployed mobile experience is mesmerizing. There are more than a billion people in the world who could use custom mobile apps to be more productive at work. However, whether in a large corporation or in a small business, it has proven way too expensive, complicated, and time-consuming to build apps with traditional code-based programming. AppSheet has taken a different approach by creating an intelligent, declarative, "no-code" app platform that support their mission to empower all those people to innovate, to create apps themselves, and to use those apps every day with their teams. I am spending some time advising them on some strategic aspect as it relates to some innovation that AI and ML can bring to make this experience even easier and more magical, not unlike what happened to Tableau.
Splash is a fantastic non-profit organization whose mission is to bring clean water and good hygiene practices to public schools in poor urban areas of India, Nepal, Ethiopia and more. Today they serve over 400,000 kids with a goal to increase this number to over a million school kids by 2023. Kids living in urban poverty regularly have little control or no choice about the water they consume. In a world where restaurants and hotels for tourists can get clean water anytime and anywhere, it is hard to imagine that kids in the same cities cannot. Splash works with foreign governments & builds local businesses to create safe water projects, at scale, in resource poor cities. The puzzle pieces already exist. They simply need to reconfigure them to create a more efficient, effective and equitable product. Splash begins with clean water at scale. Splash then add customized hygiene education services and broker key relationships to solve sanitation challenges. By piggybacking on technology and supply chains already in use by major food and hotel chains, we’re able to set a bold goal of 100% coverage of a platform (instead of simply a pilot project): every orphanage in China; every public school in Kathmandu, Nepal; every child-serving institution in Kolkata, India; and more. I am advising them on technology choices and implementation in regard to developing a reliable, scale-able, efficient, low cost, and low maintenance end to end data pipeline covering all aspects of data collection, reshaping, warehousing, reporting and analysis.
Levyx's technology is transforming the economics of real-time processing large-scale data sets. Capable of handling hundreds of millions (scaling to billions) of queries per second, Levyx's Helium product enables radical reductions in the amount of supporting infrastructure that is typically needed to process large volumes of data. Levyx makes the massive data processing power that was usually reserved for web-scale companies (who could afford it) and makes it accessible to the masses.
