About

Since I was a kid I always knew I wanted to work in the space industry - but unlike most kids, I wasn’t aspiring to be an astronaut, I wanted to be the one building rockets. This childhood dream propelled me to pursue a profession in engineering and aviation, spending the early part of my career leading the avionics development for Virgin Orbit and Virgin Galactic and going on to lead the vehicle software development for scooter company, Bird. In 2021, my friend and former colleague at Bird, Jose Acain, and I decided to apply the technical expertise we’d amassed to a new and important challenge: make asteroid mining a practical and near-term solution to preserving the Earth’s most critical resources. Childhood dream unlocked. Our company, AstroForge, is the first and most efficient asteroid mining company in the world, and the first commercial company ever to go to deep space. We raised $13M in seed funding led by Initialized Capital in 2022, and are on track to launch our first two missions in 2023: a refinery demonstration tentatively scheduled for April, and a deep space mission to observe our target asteroid in preparation for our first retrieval tentatively scheduled for October. We’re here to show the world that asteroid mining isn’t some far-fetched sci-fi fantasy, but a realistic solution to preserving our planet.
