In college I started a food truck and got my butt kicked by a bad employee. Hiring is hard! Graduated university but could not find a job with my English degree. Nobody was hiring failed food truck founders with excellent reading comprehension. Could not find a job, so I did what anyone else would do and started another business: trying to help people like me unsuccessfully find jobs...that was unsuccessful. Another failed startup but this time time I failed into recruiting. Got a job at a recruiting agency for 7 months. I was doing great! So I left. Left the recruiting agency to work in an environment more aligned with my goals. Had to hire myself. CreativeRecruit boomed! I have helped grow some amazing companies especially in the NYC ecosystem. Most of them exited! Recruiting business is going great so in order to grow AmirEnterprises, a few years ago, along side recruiting, I started a NIH funded condom company. That was disaster. I stand by it. The margins... the margins (he weeps). Not joking, Gorilla condoms : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOuFjJqkJ8k Came to my senses, and decided to focus 100000% on recruiting, no more "adventures", no more "condom and bagel" distractions, if you know what I mean ;) ;)...(I don't know what I mean). So I started Skilled. Skilled was one of my top-secret recruiting weapons first conceptualized @ Krossover Analytics (exited) in 2015. I love Skilled. We worked with edu's that believed in transformative pedagogy, companies that were rapidly scaling, mentors that were passionate, and job-seekers that were eager. After 6 years of grinding the 2023 banking collapse laid Skilled flat on the mat and forced me to walk away as the full-time CEO. Another failure. This one stung both the most and the least all at the same time. At a certain point you can either take a punch or you can not. It never feels good but it is just part of the game and you are either player or a bystander. As a player this was just another punch (to the gut!) and my response was to counter.
