Amartya Mandal

Hi there! I'm Amartya Mandal, a machine learning engineer at Joulea, an ATDC portfolio startup out of Georgia Tech. I develop machine learning models and leverage computer vision algorithms to find thermal and structural anomalies in commercial buildings using RGB and IR images. I'm deeply passionate about Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence, particularly in areas like Computer Vision, Generative AI, and Interpretability. My passion lies in using machine learning to solve challenging problems! I obtained my Master of Science (MS) at Georgia Tech. I worked as a graduate research assistant with McGrath Lab on computer vision projects, such as investigating fish behavior using object detection and tracking and analyzing their trajectories. I also completed a Data Science and AI internship at AstraZeneca that summer. I worked with Knowledge Graphs to identify patient clusters and disease endotypes with omics and clinical study data. Before Georgia Tech, I worked with Synapsica Healthcare as an AI Scientist to build AI-based automatic disease detections and reporting for medical imaging modalities like MRI and XRay for Spine and Chest. I graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Technology in Biotechnology from IIT Guwahati. I transitioned from Biotechnology to Machine Learning during my research internship at the University of Tokyo. I was fascinated with the prospect of how an integration of artificial intelligence in precision medicine can revolutionize healthcare delivery. I am creating a path to work on this idea of personalized medicine. I worked towards building expertise in computer vision, machine learning, and image processing and honing my engineering and research skills at Georgia Tech and through my industry experience earlier. I am proficient in programming languages like C++, Python, R, and SQL and deep learning frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow.
