The Freight & Tariff Analyst is responsible for analyzing, managing, and optimizing freight, duty, tariff, and transportation-related costs across domestic and international supply chains. This role ensures accurate tariff classification, customs compliance, freight invoice validation, landed cost calculations, and reporting of transportation expenses. The position works closely with Logistics, Procurement, Finance, Customs Brokers, and Freight Forwarders to identify cost-saving opportunities, improve operational efficiency, and mitigate risks associated with global trade regulations.


Freight & Tariff Analyst

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Manage and approve all freight, duty, tariff, and transportation-related invoices, ensuring accurate billing, proper allocation, contract compliance, and timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Administer and maintain all import/export documentation processes in compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and international trade regulations, ensuring records are accurate, current, and properly maintained within tracking systems.
  • Support import and export operations by coordinating shipment logistics, customs documentation, freight forwarders, brokers, carriers, and other service providers to ensure efficient and compliant movement of goods.
  • Analyze freight expenses, carrier performance, transportation routes, tariffs, duties, taxes, and landed costs to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve supply chain efficiency.
  • Maintain and validate tariff classifications (HTS codes), monitor changes in trade regulations and tariff schedules, and communicate business impacts and compliance requirements to management.
  • Conduct audits of freight charges, customs entries, shipping documentation, and transportation spend to identify discrepancies, overpayments, compliance risks, and opportunities for recovery.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze reports, KPIs, budgets, and forecasts related to freight costs, duty expense, transportation efficiency, and trade compliance performance.
  • Partner with Purchasing, Logistics, Operations, Finance, and external service providers to improve visibility, accuracy, and control of transportation and import-related costs.
  • Develop and implement process improvements, internal controls, and best practices related to freight management, customs compliance, and global trade operations.
  • Support month-end close activities, customs audits, regulatory reviews, sourcing initiatives, logistics optimization projects, and other business objectives as required.
  • Continuously evaluate supply chain processes to drive operational efficiencies, cost reductions, and compliance improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or related field required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in freight analysis, import/export operations, customs compliance, logistics, or supply chain finance.
  • Strong understanding of international shipping practices, Incoterms, customs regulations, and tariff classifications.
  • Experience with Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes and duty drawback programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of freight audit and payment processes.
  • Experience analyzing transportation costs, carrier performance, and landed cost calculations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with advanced Excel capabilities.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred).
  • Ability to interpret complex customs regulations and tariff requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Power BI, and Outlook.
