Senior Optical Metrology Engineer
About this role
Focus on the development and implementation of advanced optical metrology solutions for Rx AR smart glasses, Rx lens assemblies, waveguide components and other near-eye display systems.
Responsible for the fullprocess development from measurement requirement definition, equipment selection and operation, inspection method set up and configuration, production verification.
This role provides core metrology solutions for both see through optical quality and virtual image quality inspections in Rx AR products, including but not limited to ghost image, stray light, distortions, transmission spectrum, Rx optical power, chromatic aberration, FOV, MTF. This role will support XRX R&D team for new technology innovation, product development and manufacturing process optimisation.
1. Rx AR/VR optical metrology capability development
a. Define optical metrology capability for Rx AR/VR smart glasses assemblies such as prescription lens (Rx) with waveguides or display components
b. Design a structured metrology capability map or portfolio to support XRX R&D Rx AR product development, prototyping, vendor qualification and production inspection
c. Translate technical or product optical requirements into measurable methods for specifications, inspection procedures, equipment requirements and acceptance criteria
2. Optical measurement method development and implementation
a. Develop optical measurement methods for both virtual image quality and see through quality for Rx AR smart glasses modules and assemblies
b. Implement measurements and studies for MTF, image distortion, ghost image intensity and separation, stray light intensity, focus and color uniformity, chromatic aberration etc
c. Establish correlations between optical simulation, actual measurement results, manufacturing process parameters and image quality
d. Define and maintain standard inspection or test methods, calibration procedures, data collection and analysis templates, and measurement reports
3. Equipment selection and qualification
a. Lead selection, evaluation and qualification of advanced optical metrology equipment
b. Work with commercial equipment platforms and software, such as confocal microscope, optical interferometers and profilometers, optical transmission and spectrometers, AR/VR image analysis system and software
c, Own new equipment specification definition, evaluation, acceptance test, installation, calibration or asset transfer process
4. Global collaboration and cross-functional support
a. Collaborate with global and cross-functional teams across R&D, quality, manufacturing, product management and suppliers organizations. Communicate professionally in English.
b. Support technical analysis for Rx AR image quality issues, including but not limited to image distortion, ghost image, stray light, focus or color non-uniformity, chromatic aberration, low MTF, see-through image degradation etc
c. Convert metrology findings into design, equipment or manufacturing process improvement recommendations
5. Ownership and adaptability
a. Have a strong sense of ownership and accountability for project deliverables and driving technical issues to closure
b. Being open minded and having growth-oriented attitude, willing to take on new challenges and responsibilities beyond core metrology expertise when required by product, project, or business needs
