About this role

Position Summary:      

Provides support and performs duties related to providing library collections and services for the University community on a part-time basis (19 hours per week), working the evening shift (6:15 pm-10:00 pm) Sunday-Thursday.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine circulation tasks including checking in and out library materials, collecting fines, and adjusting patron records in the library’s ILS (FOLIO).
  • Follow and enforce library procedures and policies.
  • Provide patrons with basic instruction in using the library catalog and website to locate library resources, including library services, print materials, and databases.
  • Assist patrons with directional questions.
  • Monitor library technology (printers and scanners) for any issues and replenish printer paper.
  • Perform regular walk-throughs of the three floors of the library, including patron counts.
  • Assist with special projects including answering student worker questions, reconciling library records, and shifting library materials.
  • Perform loose-leaf filing.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Independently operates the Law Library service desk during evening hours Sunday through Thursday, handling circulation, patron assistance, fines, and closing procedures without on-site supervision. Also performs technical support tasks including complex data entry, materials preparation for binding, database verification, and supply tracking, referring non-routine matters to a professional librarian or supervisor.

Experience & Educational Background:

Required:

  • High School Diploma

Preferred:

  • College degree or documented educational equivalent. 
  • 1 year of library experience.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Highly responsible regarding time and attendance.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills including adaptability, active listening, conflict resolution, effective communication, and patience.
  • Effective communication skills (listening, speaking, and writing) with sound judgment and problem-solving abilities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Working knowledge of library technology including computers, printers, and scanners.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently.
