About this role
Position Overview
The Butler is responsible for delivering exceptional household service and front‑of‑house management within a private residence. Reporting to the Head of Household or Property Manager, the role combines service excellence, discretion and leadership of front‑of‑house staff to ensure a seamless, comfortable and well‑organised household environment.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and deliver formal and informal table service, wine and beverage service, and silver service as required for daily meals and private entertaining.
Maintain high standards of presentation for household public rooms, including polishing silver, care of fine china, table linens and decorative items.
Manage and coordinate front‑of‑house staff duties, rostering, training and performance to ensure consistent service delivery.
Act as the first point of contact for household visitors and contractors, managing discreetly and professionally all guest arrivals, departures and enquiries.
Assist with wardrobe care, garment pressing and coordination with laundry or specialist cleaners; oversee care and storage of seasonal clothing and accessories.
Maintain household inventory for silverware, glassware, tableware, and front‑of‑house supplies; place orders and liaise with suppliers as required.
Support private dining and events by coordinating service timing, liaising with the kitchen and other household staff, and ensuring flawless execution of each event.
Manage keys, security protocols and confidential household information with the utmost discretion and professionalism.
Maintain accurate records of daily activities, inventories and service logs, and report any issues to the Head of Household or Property Manager.
Work flexibly to meet household needs, including occasional evenings, weekends and travel with the household when required.
Candidate Profile
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a butler, senior household service or high‑end hospitality role within private residences, boutique hotels or fine dining establishments.
Excellent standards of personal presentation, etiquette and service with strong attention to detail.
Confident in formal dining service (silver service), beverage and wine knowledge, and basic food handling protocols.
Discreet, trustworthy and able to handle confidential information with professionalism.
Strong organisational skills, proactive approach to problem‑solving and the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
Flexible and reliable with a willingness to reside at the property or be available on call when required.
