Senior Systems Safety Engineer - Fairfax, VA
About this role
- Apply knowledge, methodologies, and principles of safety engineering as defined in MIL-STD-882 and software safety engineering as outlined in the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH).
- Prepare System Safety Engineering analysis and Generate documents in accordance with MIL-STD-882E and MIL-STD-2105 including PHAs, FHAs, SHAs/SSHAs, Bent Pin Analyses, Fault Tree Analyses, non-nuclear Munitions and Software System Safety Analyses.
- Identify system safety issues, propose solutions and ensure appropriate action is taken to mitigate safety issues
- Develop, review, update and approve System Safety Artifacts and System Safety Requirements in coordination with Military Services’ system safety review boards
- 8+years of relevant experience (Advanced degrees may substitute for years of relevant professional experience)
- Demonstrated ability to apply system safety engineering principles in accordance with MIL-STD-882 and analyses such as preliminary hazard analyses, function/system/subsystem hazard analyses, fault tree analyses, software system safety analyses and safety assessment reports
- Demonstrated ability to apply MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-2105
- Ability to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment, and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards
- Ability to develop, review, update and approve system safety artifacts and system safety requirements
- Understanding of requirements development, system/software architecture, hardware/software design, software code implementation, test, verification, and validation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of leadership and customers
- Demonstrated ability to apply system safety engineering specifically within US Navy applications and all associated deliverables and Safety Review Boards (e.g. FISTRP, WSESRB, HERO, Battery Safety Review)
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM discipline
- Advanced degrees (Master’s of PhD) may substitute for years of relevant professional experience
- Must have the ability to stop, stand, climb, occasionally lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Involves movement between departments, floors, and worksites to facilitate work.
