Responsibilities

The Plant Process Engineer serves as the primary process engineering resource for the assigned production units (Ammonia & Utilities or Urea & Nitric Acid/UAN). The position works closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Technical personnel to optimize plant performance, troubleshoot process issues, and implement improvements that enhance safety, reliability, environmental performance, and energy efficiency.

  • Monitor and optimize plant processes to ensure safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally compliant operations.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and engineering support to resolve operational issues and improve performance.
  • Lead root cause analyses and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant reliability, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Support process modifications, Management of Change (MOC) activities, and plant improvement projects.
  • Maintain process documentation, engineering standards, and operating limits.
  • Lead and participate in process safety and risk management activities, including HAZOPs and risk assessments.
  • Provide technical training and support to personnel.
  • Support turnarounds, startups, shutdowns, commissioning, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with other departments and functions to achieve plant performance objectives.
  • Collaborate with Process Control Engineers to optimize control strategies, alarm performance and advanced process control initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain operating envelopes, process limits and engineering standards to support safe and reliable operation

Education, Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Eligible for or registered as a P.Eng. with APEGS. Process safety, simulation, or continuous improvement experience is an asset.
  • 3+ years' engineering experience in fertilizer, petrochemical, refining, or other continuous-process industries.
  • Experience with process troubleshooting, optimization, and operational support.
  • Turnaround, startup, commissioning, or process improvement experience is an asset. Ammonia, urea, or nitric acid experience is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of process engineering principles, including thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid flow, reaction engineering, and process control.
  • Ability to analyze operating data and improve safety, reliability, efficiency, and performance.
  • Strong teamwork skills with Operations, Maintenance, and Technical teams.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
