WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings team in Dallas, TX. This position offers the opportunity to support and lead electrical design efforts for a wide range of building projects, including commercial, mixed-use, civic, healthcare, science & technology, and institutional facilities. Experience with higher education projects is highly desirable.

This position can also be based in our Austin, TX office.

The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative and sustainable building solutions while contributing technical expertise, mentoring junior staff, and supporting project delivery from concept through construction. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer looking to take the next step in technical leadership while continuing to grow their design and client-facing responsibilities. 

Your Impact

  • Lead the design and coordination of electrical systems for new construction, renovation, and tenant improvement projects.
  • Develop construction documents for power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, telecommunications, grounding, and low-voltage systems.
  • Perform and review electrical engineering calculations, analyses, and technical studies.
  • Coordinate designs with architects, mechanical engineers, structural engineers, contractors, and owners.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource coordination.
  • Conduct site investigations, field assessments, and construction observation activities.
  • Review RFIs, shop drawings, and contractor submittals during construction.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control efforts across project deliverables.
  • Participate in client meetings and contribute to proposal and pursuit activities.
  • Apply sustainable and future-ready design principles to building systems projects.
  • Promote workplace safety and adherence to WSP quality standards.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience designing building systems.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Experience designing power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, emergency power, and low-voltage systems for commercial or institutional facilities.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, National Electrical Code (NEC), energy codes, and industry standards.
  • Experience using Revit and AutoCAD for building systems design.
  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary project coordination and building design processes.
  • Excellent communication, technical writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety, quality, and client service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with higher education facilities, including academic buildings, residence halls, laboratories, student centers, and campus infrastructure.
  • Experience in healthcare, science & technology, civic, or federal building projects.
  • Familiarity with electrical system studies, including short-circuit, coordination, and arc flash analyses.
  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) or other sustainability credential.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff and coordinating project teams.
  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

Compensation:

Expected Salary: $100,800 - $147,000

 

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
