New England Seafood International (NESI) was established in 1991 and is an importer and processor of premium fresh and frozen sustainable fish and seafood. NESI employs circa 850 people across three sites in the UK and imports a wide range of wild and farmed fish and shellfish from all around the world. We are part of the Sealaska Corporation, an Alaska Native corporation formed in 1971 and which is owned by 26,000 Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian shareholders, who are all bloodline descendants of the first settlers to the Americas.

Title:                     HSE Site Lead                 

Reports to:           Group HSE Manager

Location:              Chessington

Salary:                  up to £40,000 DOE

Shift pattern:        8:00am – 5:00pm

Hours:                  Monday - Friday

The HSE Team

Our sites measure success via our SPQDC, the HSE team are responsible for:

SafetyEnsuring all accidents, incidents, near-misses and hazards have been timely reported and where necessary investigated ahead of daily Tier meetings and KPI reviews – Be able to identify and talk to trends and opportunities for improvement in weekly Functional meetings and monthly Departmental reviews.

PeopleA roll model of safety leadership behaviours and coach to others. Cross functional working with other Departments eg Technical and a member of the HSE Team with like-minded colleagues sharing best practices and learned lessons from incidents.

QualityProvide feedback to investigating managers on quality of investigations and timeliness of completion plus close out of corrective and preventative actions.

Delivery Responsible for accurate and data driven daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual management review reporting for KPI tracking and Tier mtg use. Owner of the site's compliance calendar and internal HSE audit plan.

CostRaise purchase orders for Chessington against the Sites HSE overhead budget allocated annually.

 

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to support the Group HSE Manager and the Chessington T4 Team deliver the NESI HSE Vision and continually improve HSE culture. Take a leading role in assessing risk and confirming functional compliance for the Chessington site, provide administrative support regarding raising purchase orders, producing reports and action management. An active and productive member of the site T3 Team.

We will ensure that all persons are provided with a safe working environment and have access to suitable welfare facilities including safe access and egress.

We will ensure all our staff are site inducted, provided the necessary levels of HSE training to work safely on site and provided expert training for their role – This role is no exception. Full training, coaching and mentoring will be provided.

 

Role & Responsibilities

  • Champion and advocate for all HSE controls and standards on site.
  • Assess and feedback on all hazard report submissions from colleagues
  • Producing and updating HSE Reports, spreadsheets, KPI’s.
  • HSE data analysis – identify trends, hotspots, weaknesses and escalate as appropriate.
  • Raise Purchase Orders to the HSE OH Budget
  • Follow up as necessary any HSE outstanding actions
  • Ensuring HSE communications are relevant and up-to-date.
  • Represent the HSE Department at relevant Tier meetings, forums and working groups.
  • Champion of Risk Assessment methodology – Full Training will be given.

 

What experiences, knowledge and capabilities do I need to demonstrate? 

  • Experience of working in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment
  • Experience/strong desire of working in an entry/mid-level health & safety role.
  • Previous supervisory or managerial experience (Desirable)
  • Administrative experience required
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite of tools
  • Minimum IOSH Occupational Health & Safety Qualification working to NEBOSH Certificate.
  • Role model excellent safety behaviours without exception.
  • Able to perform tasks accurately and productively to sometimes tight deadlines.
  • The ability to promote and develop HSE systems and culture
  • Flexible and willing to perform a variety of tasks – to learn and grow.
  • Must be able to work as a team and independently.
