The role
The Gallery Assistant plays a key role in delivering an exceptional visitor experience while supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the gallery. Working across both the exhibition spaces and Front of House, the role combines gallery invigilation, visitor engagement, reception support, and operational assistance to maintain the highest standards of presentation, safety, and service. 
As a visible presence throughout the gallery, the Gallery Assistant is responsible for monitoring exhibition spaces, safeguarding artworks, and creating a welcoming, professional environment for all visitors. The role also supports the Front of House team during busy periods, assists with visitor enquiries, and provides operational support across the gallery as required. Gallery Assistants help ensure exhibitions are experienced as intended, visitors receive a consistently high standard of service, and the gallery environment reflects White Cube's commitment to excellence.

• Visitors receive a welcoming, engaging, and informative experience throughout their time in the gallery.
• Gallery spaces are presented to the highest standard, creating a safe, professional, and welcoming environment.
• Artworks, exhibitions, and public spaces are cared for through attentive gallery stewardship.
• Front of House and gallery operations are supported to ensure the smooth running of daily activities and events.
• White Cube's standards of professionalism, hospitality, and visitor experience are consistently upheld.

Responsibilities

Visitor & Gallery Experience
• Act as a welcoming presence across the gallery, providing a professional first point of contact for all visitors, including collectors, artists, and clients.
• Engage confidently with visitors, answering questions and guiding them through exhibitions and gallery spaces.
• Develop and maintain a strong knowledge of current exhibitions, artists, and gallery programmes.
• Maintain a visible presence in gallery spaces, supporting visitor behaviour in line with gallery guidelines and encouraging respectful engagement with artworks.
• Respond to visitor needs on the gallery floor, escalating concerns where appropriate.
• Recognise collectors and VIP visitors and notify the Front of House or relevant teams where appropriate.
Gallery Operations & Front of House Support
• Conduct regular walkthroughs of exhibition spaces to ensure they remain clean, safe, and visitor-ready.
• Maintain an attentive presence across gallery spaces, supporting visitor flow, engagement, and the respectful enjoyment of artworks.
• Provide Front of House and operational support across the gallery, including reception cover, visitor enquiries, event support, meeting room preparation, and the distribution of post and deliveries.
• Report and escalate accidents, incidents, hazards, and security or operational concerns in line with gallery procedures.

Qualifications and Skills
• Experience in a visitor-facing or Front of House environment is desirable.
• Strong communication and people skills, with the ability to engage confidently and professionally with visitors and colleagues.
• A genuine interest in people and a strong commitment to delivering an excellent visitor experience.
• Warm, confident, and professional manner in all visitor and team interactions.
• Strong attention to detail with pride in maintaining high standards across gallery spaces and visitor areas.
• Ability to remain calm, organised, and solutions-focused in busy, high-profile, or fast-paced environments.
• Proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues to support smooth gallery operations.
