WeWork is seeking a Lead, Paralegal to provide comprehensive legal support across our global Compliance & Investigations functions. This global role is designed for a curious and motivated recent college graduate with interest in compliance and investigations issues who has strong people, communication, and organizational skills. The new Paralegal will support the day-to-day operations of our global compliance and investigations programs. For Compliance, the Paralegal will help maintain the team’s day-to-day operations in responding to requests for member or vendor vetting, disclosures of potential conflicts, and other compliance related inquiries. On the Investigations side, the Paralegal will support internal investigations of alleged misconduct by WeWork members, vendors, or employees. Investigations may include cases of alleged harassment, workplace violence, fraud, or kickbacks. We are looking for someone who is hard-working, willing to learn, and eager to dive in head first.

Responsibilities

    • On a daily basis, monitor the Compliance team’s global intake portals for queries related to compliance advice, ethics reports, KYC requirements, conflicts of interest disclosures, and member and vendor vetting.

    • Act as the first level responder and reviewer for low risk checks and queries.

    • Identify higher risk queries and vetting issues and escalate to more senior Compliance colleagues for review and resolution.

    • Ensure appropriate follow-up is completed and queries are closed out in a timely manner.

  • Support Communications & Training: Create and update training materials, internal employee websites, policies, and communications to global employees regarding Compliance and Security issues such as awareness of red flags, conflicts of interests, and gift guidelines.

  • File Organization: Ensure our internal Google drive repository is well-organized and searchable.

  • Conflicts of Interests Disclosures: At the direction of senior colleagues on the team, conduct initial fact gathering in response to disclosures of potential conflicts of interest disclosed by employees or vendors and report on findings.

Investigations

  • Conduct Fact Finding: Support Investigations colleagues in investigating global reports of misconduct by WeWork members, vendors, or employees. Fact finding tasks may include: Conducting email searches; reviewing secure video footage; attending interviews with reporters, witnesses, and subjects; and collecting and reviewing other evidence such as keycard entry swipes, financial data, time and expense reports, publicly available records and social media content.

  • Prepare Investigative Reports: Take notes during interviews; support senior colleagues in drafting interview memos or investigative reports or summaries for internal review.

  • Records Organization & Maintenance: Ensure investigative records are organized and maintained in accordance with internal policies and applicable privacy regulations.
