What's the role?
Working closely with Treasury stakeholders, you'll play a key role in supporting funding activities and strategic transactions across Australia, the US, the UK and other jurisdictions. This is an opportunity to work on sophisticated matters while partnering directly with the business and contributing to strategic decision-making from the outset.
The collaborative and highly regarded legal team advises on a broad range of matters spanning debt capital markets, securitisation, corporate and equity capital markets, M&A and broader Westpac activities. You'll have the opportunity to expand your expertise across these areas while building strong relationships with stakeholders across the organisation.
Key responsibilities:
- Support Westpac’s domestic and international funding activities, including debt capital markets, securitisation, and corporate and equity capital markets.
- Partner with Treasury stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams on strategic projects and transactions.
- Identify and manage legal risk while supporting business outcomes.
- Build trusted relationships with internal stakeholders and external advisers, counterparties and regulators.
- Continue to develop and broaden your expertise across Treasury Legal's diverse practice areas.
What do I need?
Ideally, you'll have experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Debt capital markets
- Securitisation
- Corporate or equity capital markets
- Banking and finance, particularly where connected to Treasury funding or capital markets activities.
Just as importantly, you'll be someone who:
- Brings strong technical capability, sound judgement and a commercial approach to legal problem-solving.
- Enjoys building trusted relationships and partnering closely with stakeholders.
- Has a willingness to learn and a genuine interest in broadening your expertise within a dynamic in-house environment.
- Thrives in a collaborative team environment where knowledge sharing and support are valued.
- Can navigate complexity, balance competing priorities and deliver practical, commercial outcomes.
- Is looking to combine high-quality legal work with long-term career development opportunities within a large and supportive organisation.
Supported by an experienced leader and a team that genuinely invests in each other's success, you'll have the opportunity to broaden your expertise across multiple practice areas, build meaningful relationships with key stakeholders and develop a long-term career within one of Australia's leading financial institutions.
