Collection Assistant, Hong Kong Palace Museum
About this role
The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education and public programmes. The museum comprises 7 800 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum’s collections of paintings, calligraphy, antiquities and historical objects, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations.
(This is a fixed-term contract position of 1-year with possibility for renewal subject to organisational needs and individual performance.)
You will be responsible for:
- supporting the implementation of effective collection digitization and cataloguing strategies, including digital asset management and collection documentation;
- assisting in the management and maintenance of The Museum System (TMS), ensuring collection data is accurate, complete, and up to date through close collaboration with curators and other relevant parties;
- coordinating and supporting object viewing activities, including the preparation, handling, tracking, and documentation of collection objects;
- assisting the Manager, Collection Management, in collaborating with the Curatorial Affairs Section, supporting the acquisition of new objects, and maintaining collection documentation, particularly in relation to cataloguing;
- supporting acquisitions in collaboration with curators, and photographing new acquisitions in coordination with the photographer and Digital Assets teammate;
- assisting the Collection Team with object rehousing projects;
- assisting supervisors in exhibition-related loan management, registration work, and on-site installation and deinstallation activities, when necessary;
- assisting the Assistant Manager, Digital Asset, in handling image licensing requests from external parties relating to the use of the Museum’s images; and
- performing any other duties as may be reasonably assigned from time to time by the Hong Kong Palace Museum.
You should:
- possess a recognised university degree in visual art, art history, cultural heritage management, archives and records management, museum studies or other relevant discipline;
- preferably possess 1-2 year(s) of relevant work experience;
- be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise;
- have strong interest in building profession in the art and culture sector;
- have good written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chinese, proficiency in Putonghua is an advantage;
- have good hands work will be a plus; and
- be proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office.

By developing this sizable project in phases we can start to bring the district to life. The Xiqu Centre, Freespace, Art Park, M+, Hong Kong Palace Museum and Lyric Theatre Complex, will be developed as a first batch of facilities aiming for opening to the public.
