Procurement Specialist

The Procurement Specialist position in Wallingford, CT is a technical procurement role focused on sourcing and purchasing goods and services that meet specific technical requirements. This role serves as a critical link in maintaining an efficient supply chain and supporting successful customer fulfillment. The specialist works closely with engineering teams to understand technical specifications and manages supplier relationships to ensure maximum value for the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive understanding of technical specifications for products and services
- Review purchase requisitions from Operations/Manufacturing branches
- Source parts/services according to required specifications following established guidelines
- Perform inventory redeployment checks to utilize existing inventory
- Request and evaluate supplier quotes for accuracy, pricing, and delivery requirements
- Utilize competitive bidding to target best quality, delivery, and total cost of ownership
- Create and manage purchase orders according to guidelines
- Monitor order status and update delivery dates through supplier communication
- Act as liaison between suppliers and Source to Pay functions to resolve payment issues
- Facilitate supplier contract negotiations as required
- Participate in supplier review processes and develop relationships with key strategic suppliers
- Support supplier base rationalization with Sourcing and Category Management
- Use material planning reports (MRP/DRP) to determine supply requirements
- Prepare shortage and backlog reports to provide visibility of potential interruptions
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements where applicable
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Minimum 6 years of purchasing or procurement experience
- Experience in planning, purchasing, and material optimization
- JDE, SAP, Oracle or other large ERP systems
- Solid knowledge of Material Resource Planning (MRP) and Demand Resource Planning
- Good understanding of procurement processes, industry standards, and supplier management
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficiency in MS Office suite with advanced Excel skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Flexibility to adapt to changing operational requirements
Travel Requirements
- This role may require domestic and potentially international travel of up to 10-20%.
