Position Overview
Alaska Waste is seeking an experienced Site Manager or District Manager to lead daily operations at our Fairbanks location. This role is responsible for overseeing personnel, equipment, safety, compliance, customer relations, and financial performance. The Site Manager works closely with the Division Vice President to drive operational excellence, ensure regulatory compliance, and support both short‑ and long‑term site growth.
This position is ideal for a hands-on leader with strong operational, financial, and people-management skills who is comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all site personnel, including drivers, mechanics, and all other staff; responsible for hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and disciplinary actions
Schedule employees, equipment, and third‑party contractors to ensure efficient completion of daily operations and facility projects
Maintain a strong safety culture by executing safety programs, setting safety goals, and ensuring compliance with company policies, OSHA, DOT, EPA, and Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
Conduct regular field inspections and audits to ensure proper work practices and regulatory compliance
Oversee complex compliance programs, including environmental, DOT, OSHA, and local permitting requirements
Partner with the DVP to develop and execute short‑term and long‑term operational and growth plans
Monitor budgets and operating metrics; participate in regular P&L reviews to manage labor, material, and equipment costs
Implement programs to improve equipment utilization, maintenance, and overall operational efficiency
Interact with customers, local municipalities, and county representatives to ensure customer satisfaction and operational efficiency
Coordinate with state and local regulatory agencies to ensure effective compliance with applicable rules and regulations
Receive, review, and resolve customer complaints related to collection and site operations
Qualifications
Required:
Prior supervisory or management experience in the solid waste industry
Strong financial acumen, including experience managing P&L, budgets, and forecasts
Previous leadership experience in a transportation or operations-driven environment
Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulations
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and maintain accountability
Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel and Word, and ability to learn company-specific systems
Ability to communicate effectively in English
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
2+ years of managing teams in a people-driven environment
Willingness to relocate in the future for growth opportunities
