Member of Technical Staff: Data Infrastructure & Data Operations
About this role
Position Summary:
You'll build and scale the data foundation alongside the world-class team training our robot models—the systems that move our multimodal data (robot sensor and action logs, plus web-scale image, video, and text) into the models they build. As a senior IC, you'll own the architecture and reliability at the core of that platform—ingestion, storage, transformation, and the data operations that keep quality high at scale—working hand in hand with the teams who produce and depend on that data.
Core Responsibilities:
- Data Pipelines: Design and scale high-throughput pipelines for petabyte-scale multimodal data.
- Platform Ownership: Keep the platform the ML teams build on reliable, fast, and cost-efficient.
- Quality & Compliance: Implement the platform-level controls for data quality, lineage, and compliance, built to enforce the quality standards the annotation and ML teams define.
- Discoverability: Build tooling that lets ML teams find, understand, and trust their data.
Required Qualifications:
- Data / Distributed Systems: Strong background with production systems at real scale.
- Data Infrastructure Development: Extensive experience developing cloud-based data infrastructure for automated data pipelines.
- Platform Ownership: Experience owning a data platform's reliability and cost over time.
- ML Adjacency: Comfort operating close to ML teams and translating their needs into durable infrastructure.
- Technical Judgment: The ability to lead a work stream and make high-leverage architectural decisions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Multimodal or robotics/sensor data experience.
- Familiarity with compliance and KPI-tracking requirements in customer-facing deployments.
- Experience with data-lineage, catalog, or governance systems.
