The Role
Volvo Cars is hiring a senior lawyer to join the Greater China Legal team. You will run the Volvo China's corporate governance, lead M&A and strategic industrial-side projects, and work directly with business leaders and executives across commercial, industrial operation, finance, people experience and other functions.
The Team
Group Legal at Volvo Cars is a global function of around eighty in-house lawyers across the globe. Within Group Legal, Greater China legal team sits inside APAC Headerquarters in Shanghai and currently has eight lawyers across corporate, commercial, and corporate goverance. The team upholds the highest standard of professionlism, has a can-do attitude and collaborative culture.
What you'll do
- Lead M&A and industrial-side strategic transactions and projects end-to-end, including scope and structure defining, negotiation, and execution. Work with external counsel, internal business functions, and Group legal team as needed.
- Run the China board calendar and projects, including preparing board materials, coordinating meetings, liaision and communicate with directors and supervisors, work with management executives in meeting preparation, and make sure board resolutions are actioned and documented.
- Own corporate governance and regulatory compliance for the China entities, including driving Delegation of Authorities, group policy adherence, support to global board matters, regulatory filings.
- Manage significant disputes when they arise, including regulatory inquiries and investigations.
- Build playbook for the team, including training business colleagues, drafting policies and guidelines, and turning one-off advice into repeatable standards.
What you'll bring
You have 10–15 years of post-qualification experience, ideally split between a top law firm and an in-house role at a multinational company. You have run an M&A deal yourself — not just been on the diligence checklist. You knew what the board secretary does – have prepared board materials and minutes and sat in a board meeting before.
- PRC Bar qualification
- Master's degree in law from a reputable university in China and/or abroad; overseas education preferred
- 10–15 years PQE, with significant time at a top-tier firm and multinational legal department
- Fluent English (written and spoken) — you will draft board materials and minutes in English and lead a MA project with colleages from global teams
- Track record on M&A and complex stakeholder management - Background covering industrial operations
