We’re looking for a DWDM Optical Network Engineer to be a key part of a highly visible and business-critical technology team at Viasat.

This is a site‑based role, employees work 3+ days (60%+) per week from a Viasat office or work location within a standard five‑day workweek.

The day-to-day

You will be working on the design and architecture of the company’s core network infrastructure to support our expanding global satellite fleet. You will also work on layer 1 through layer 3 network design, capacity planning and platform management as well as the design of routes for fiber-based networks including point to point, ring, and path diverse routing.

What you'll need

Using the experience gained during your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering to design complex optical networks
Applying your 5 years relevant work experience with multi-vendor network equipment to architect complex DWDM systems
Creating written network implementation design plans (e.g. Method-of-Procedures MOPs).

What will help you on the job

Experience with use of fiber network design, planning and mapping software tools such as Nokia, Adtran, (Infinera, Adva) 3-GIS, ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS
Coding and debugging in Java, Python, Golang, or other modern programming languages.
Experience with continuous integration & delivery and DevOps methodologies
Operational experience working with major carriers
An understanding of outside plant construction requirements with fiber experience preferred
IP and Ethernet networking experience

Salary range

$120,500.00 - $190,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $149,500.00- $224,500.00/ annually
