About Vi & the role

• Vi is an enterprise AI platform for health enterprises - healthcare, biopharma, and wellness. We deploy agentic AI and predictive models into production environments where the output drives next best actions for patients, care teams, and operations to deliver ROI and improve health outcomes.
• We are looking for a Director of Engineering to own the engineering team in Israel - all those working as part of the Platform layer and Vi’s Israeli-led product squads - as a true “hands-on” player/coach.
• This is an IC builder + team leader role and not a management-only. You will carry full accountability for the people, the architecture, and the shipped outcome, while remaining the strongest IC & deep in the code: Building solutions from scratch and prototyping the hardest parts yourself. You set the technical bar by example.

What you’ll be part of

• Core Platform - Shared, composable data and deep technical capabilities to power all Vi’s products and teams: Services span around data systems, company brain, tabular and causal foundation models, generic agentic workflows and outreach in the client’s environments, etc.
• Data Web - Continuous enrichment of Vi’s proprietary, licensed, and collected data assets and productization of it across the company.
• Pulse - Vi’s external-facing LLM-driven production analytics, data-querying, and visualizations system.
• Israeli-led application squads - Activate and Engage HCP: productized AI running the full patient/HCP acquisition and engagement client loop, from problem definition through modeling, integrations, shipping, and measurement.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on technical leadership: Own the architectural bar across the platform and IL squads, including resolving hard technical stuff yourself.
• Team ownership and talent: Hire, calibrate, mentor, and grow a small team of exceptionally strong ICs. Own performance, pace, standards and the talent bar for engineering in Israel.
• Platform-first execution: Deliver shared capabilities that every squad composes instead of rebuilding. Turn field-derived patterns from live deployments into reusable platform components.
• Delivery accountability: Own the technical outcome of IL-led deployments end-to-end.
• Non-functional integrity: Reliability, performance, security, observability, and quality of everything in your scope, in a HIPAA-regulated environment.
• AI-native operating model: Push the team to work at AI speed & mindset - agentic development tooling, automated evaluation, and a team structure that adapts as the world and tooling continues to change.
• Cross-functional partnership: Work directly with Product, the US application squads, Infrastructure, Data Science, and the commercial team. Translate client and business constraints into architecture, and architecture into commitments people can build around.

Requirements

Requirements

• 7+ years in software or data engineering, including significant time in senior IC roles, and 3+ years managing engineers - while still writing code daily.
• Strong backend and data foundations - APIs, real-time and event-driven services, and high-scale distributed data pipelines in Python with Spark or comparable frameworks.
• Production AWS depth - S3, Glue, EMR, Athena, the Iceberg table format, compute (EKS, ECS, Batch) and IaC (CDK preferred).
• Production AI/ML systems experience - feature pipelines, training data preparation, inference services, vector stores, and modern LLM/agentic patterns including RAG, MCP, evaluation, and output guardrails.
• Significant startup experience, ideally as a founding or early member of a company under 150 people. Comfortable in 0→1 with incomplete requirements and a radical sense of urgency.
• Exceptional learning velocity: You absorb new domains, tools, and model capabilities faster than the market moves.
• Strong communication in English with US-based stakeholders, technical and commercial.

What success looks like in the first 12 months

• Platform V1 delivered on schedule and genuinely adopted by every squad, with capabilities consumed rather than rebuilt.
• Single-threaded ownership for every individual & capability on the team, execution at high pace.
• IL-led squads winning the large majority of their POCs and converting them into retained logos.
• The Israeli engineering team recognized internally as a core driver of Vi’s overall results.
